| We’re only a few days into the new year and we already have a ton of updates, including a trip to Chicago, to post on here but first we need to bid an overdue and very fond farewell to 2012! Javi and I had a pretty spectacular 2012, so we figured we should give the year its due and post a recap of all the fun highlights in the Los Rodriguez Life, by category, along with some expectations for 2013.
Travel In 2012, Javier and I made a few trips, but we didn’t go crazy. We started with a trip to California (and then I went back a few weeks later), then we took off to Chicago for a weekend to hang out with Ian and Andrea and see their new home. After Chicago we flew out to Colorado in August for our belated honeymoon. Overall, I’d say that was the highlight of 2012 for me. We fell head over heels for that beautiful state, and especially Buena Vista where we stayed at the Liar’s Lodge. I’m not exaggerating when I say that we mention how much we miss Colorado at least 5 times a week. We’re determined to get back there if we get a chance this year – one of my 2013 goals is to climb another 14er if we possibly can get near one. That, my friends, was an amazing experience. In September we drove out to Soddy Daisy to visit my aunt Melissa and Andre at the marina, and then in October we drove up to Cincinnati to visit Danielle and Chris and take their engagement photos. That was it for our 2012 travels! |
Solo van unos cuantos días en este nuevo ano y ya tenemos un montón de cosas que contar, incluyendo un viaje a Chicago que postearemos acá, pero primero necesitamos darle la despedida atrasada al 2012! Javi y yo tuvimos un 2012 muy espectacular, asi que creemos que debemos honrar el ano con una recapitulación de todas las cosas entretenidas que hicimos en Los RodriguezLife, junto con lo que esperamos del 2013. Viajes En el 2012, Javier y yo hicimos algunos paseos, pero nada muy loco. Comenzamos con un viaje a California (y yo volví a ir un par de semanas después), luego fuimos a Chicago por un fin de semana a ver a Ian y Andrea en su nueva casa. Después de Chicago viajamos a Colorado en Agosto para nuestra luna de miel atrasada. Yo diría que ese viaje fue lo mejor del 2012 para mi. Nos enamoramos de ese estado, y en especial de Buena Vista donde nos alojamos en el Liar’s Lodge. No exagero cuando digo que mencionamos lo mucho que extrañamos Colorado al menos 5 veces por semana. Estamos determinados a volver allí si tenemos la oportunidad este ano – una de mis metas es poder escalar otra montaña de 14 mil pies si es que podemos estar cerca de una. Esa, amigos míos, fue una gran experiencia. En Septiembre manejamos a Soddy Daisy a visitar mi tíos Melissa y Andre en la marina, y luego en Octubre manejamos a Cincinnati para visitar a Danielle y Chris y sacar su fotos de compromiso. Esos fueron todos nuestros viajes del 2012! |

| Los Rodriguez Mansion We started off 2012 with a ton of home improvement projects. We completely redecorated our second bedroom to make it into an office for me and Javier and we transformed the old office into a gigantic pantry / doggo playroom to make up for the sad state of storage in our kitchen and to give the doggos a place to expend their energy when it’s raining outside. Outside of the house we added a clothesline, two hammocks and a really sweet vegetable garden that we’re going to expand this year. In fact, Javi is currently plotting out our new vegetable garden / landscaping projects as I type. Get excited! |
La mansion de los Rodriguez Comenzamos el 2012 con un montón de arreglos en la casa. Redecoramos completamente la segunda pieza para transformarla en una oficina para mi y Javier, y tambien transformamos nuestra antigua oficina en una despensa gigante / sala de juegos para los perros para compensar por lo poco y nada de espacio que tenemos en la cocina para guardar cosas y para darle a los perros un espacio para gastar energía cuando no pueden ir afuera. Afuera pusimos una linea para secar ropa, hamacas y una huerta que vamos a agrandar un poco este ano. De hecho, Javi esta trabajando en los planes para nuestra huerta y la remodelación del jardín mientras escribo. Prendanse! |

| Health and Fitness At the beginning of 2012 Javier and I decided to embark on a new health and fitness regimen using P90X and we added Insanity to the mix later in the year. Insanity and P90X are products from the company Beach Body and they’re basically in-home workout videos that come with a nutrition guide for each program. We started with P90X and stuck to the nutrition guide with near-fanatical accuracy. It was a pain to monitor our food that way and we were quite relieved to bid adieu to the nutrition guide after 90 days, but we did complete it and we did form new and healthy eating and exercise habits that we maintain. We added Insanity and, after experimenting with the program by itself, decided we preferred a mix of the two programs and that’s what we still do. In fact, we’ve worked out every day so far this year! 🙂 Not very many days yet of course, but it’s still fun to say. We plan to keep it up throughout the year, and we’ll continue to update on our progress! |
Salud y ejercicios A principios del 2012, Javi y yo decidimos ponernos en forma y nos embarcamos en el regime de P90X y luego agregamos Insanity. Estos dos programas de ejercicios son productos de la compania Beach Body y son basicamente videos de ejercicios que se pueden hacer en casa y vienen con una guía nutricional. Comenzamos P90X y seguimos la dieta al pie de la letra. Fue difícil monitorear nuestra comida y cuando pasaron los 90 días, estábamos contentos de decirle chao a la dieta. Pero la completamos y eso nos ayudo a crear hábitos alimenticios saludables que aun mantenemos. Empezamos Insanity, y luego de experimentar con el programa solo, decidimos hacer una mezcla de ambos programas y eso es lo que hacemos hasta hoy. De hecho, hemos ejercitado cada día de este ano! 🙂 No son muchos días, claro, pero aun asi es entretenido decirlo así. Planeamos mantenerlo durante el ano, y continuaremos contándoles sobre el progreso! |
| Weddings and Visitors We went to three weddings last year – first James and Emily, then Ellen and Kyle, then Jennifer and Daniel. They were all within a month or so of each other and each one was a blast!I loved being Ellen’s bridesmaid and I couldn’t be happier for everyone who got hitched last year. Speaking of dear friends, we also had a couple of friends visit us here – first we had Dani, Chris, Gretchen, Winkler, David and Sarah all in one weekend (crazy!) and then Corinne came and stayed with us too! All of these weddings and visits were the highlight of our spring/summer. |
Bodas y visitas Fuimos a 3 bodas el ano pasado – primero James y Emily, luego Ellen y Kyle, y luego Jennifer y Daniel. Todas mas o menos en un mes y las tres fueron muy entretenidas! Me encanto ser parte de la boda de Ellen y no puedo estar mas feliz por las parejas que se casaron el ano pasado. Hablando de amigos, también tuvimos visitas acá en Nashville – primero Dani, Chris, Gretchen, Winkler, David y Sarah un fin de semana (de locos!) y luego Corinne vino y se quedo con nosotros también! Estas bodas y visitas fueron puntos importantes del verano. |
| Music and Family In October we had the huge 30/60 party for my brother and dad‘s birthdays – and it was pretty epic. Javi made those incredible big face posters of the guys and all of Ian and dad’s friends came into town to party it up and play music all night. I want to have birthday parties like that with them every year! And speaking of music, around that same time my new band Hickory Slims re-surfaced after a several-year hiatus from our Angus Whyte and the Irish Redneck days in college. I’ve missed playing music with these guys and I’m so happy we’re playing music again. We’ve got a show coming up in late January – more on that soon! Finally, at the end of the year dad and I had an awesome show at Puckett’s – I’m still on cloud 9 from that night. We’ll do it again soon! |
Musica y familia En Octubre tuvimos una fiesta de cumpleaños de 30 /60 para mi papa y hermano – fue épica. Javi hizo unas cabezas gigantes de ambos y todos los amigos de Ian y mi papa vinieron a Nashville a celebrar y tocar música toda la noche. Quiero tener fiestas de cumpleaños como esa todos los anos! Y hablando de música, mas o menos en la misma fecha mi nueva banda, Hickory Slims re-surgio después de varios anos en pausa después de la universidad. Extrañaba tocar música con estos tipos y me pone muy feliz. Tenemos un show al final de Enero – mas sobre eso pronto! Finalmente, al final del ano papa y yo tuvimos un show genial en Puckett’s – todavía estoy sonando con esa noche. Lo haremos de nuevo pronto! |
| Blogging Finally, 2012 was our first full year in the blogosphere! We made our blogmark in 2012 with two featured posts on WordPress’ Freshly Pressed – the two posts were “We Have Hammocks” and “Visiting South Park City.” Shortly after we were featured for the South Park City post we were also featured on the Daily Post for “What Makes a Post Freshly-Pressable” – which also drove a ton of traffic to the blog and flattered us like nothing else. Really – we were blushing all day. Then, to top it off, in October we were nominated for the 2012 Latism Awards for “best bilingual blogger” and the Latino Rebels gave us their endorsement – in fact, they said we were “wicked cool.” Blush blush blush. We plan to keep on keepin’ on this year and we want to thank all of you for reading / commenting / participating on the blog! |
Blog Finalmente, el 2012 fue nuestro primer ano completo en el mundo del blog! Dos de nuestros post fueron destacado en WordPress en su pagina Freshly Pressed – el post de la hamacas y el post sobre South Park City. Poco después de ser destacados por el post sobre South Park City, también nos destacaron en el Daily Post “Como hacer que ti blog sea Freshly Pressed” – lo que también trajo mucho trafico a la pagina y nos lleno de orgullo. En serio – estábamos muy felices. Luego, para mejorar aun mas, en Octubre , nos nominaron como “mejor blog bilingüe” en los premios Latism 2012 y los Latino Rebels nos dieron su bendición – De hecho dijeron que éramos muy bakanes. Nos pusimos colorados. Planeamos mantener el trabajo en el blog y queremos agradecerles por leer/ comentar/ participar en el blog! |
| In 2013 As if this post wasn’t long enough already…here are a few things we are looking forward to in 2013. First, we have a TON of travel coming up this year. We’re kicking it off this weekend with a trip to Chicago, then we are going to Miami in February for a good friend’s wedding. In April we are going to Cincinnati for Danielle and Chris’ wedding and then the following weekend we are heading down to Destin for my cousin Andrew’s wedding to Camala. In June, Javier and I are traveling to Denmark with my parents (more on that later) and then we’ll hopefully go to Chile for Christmas in December. Ah! 2013 is also the year of weddings – as of this moment we have 10 – count ’em, TEN – weddings to go to and I bet we’ll add a couple more before too long. A ton of our friends got engaged over the holidays so maybe that’ll add a few more. I’m SO EXCITED for all of them! We’ve got one in Feb, March, two in April, two in May, one in July, one in Oct and two that are TBD. Crazy. So – if nothing else, 2013 will be marked by an abundance of nuptials and plane rides and it’s going to be great!If you’ve made it this far down, thanks for reading all the way through our 2012 recap and HAPPY NEW YEAR! |
El 2013 Como si este post no fuera lo suficientemente largo…aquí van un par de cosas que estamos viendo para el 2013. Primero, tenemos un montón de viajes este ano. Comenzamos con un viaje a Chicago, luego Miami en febrero a la boda de unos buenos amigos. En Abril vamos a Cincinnati al matrimonio de Danielle y Chris y los a Destin a la boda de mi primo Andrew y Camala. En Junio iremos a Dinamarca con mis papas, y ojalá podamos ir a Chile para la navidad. Ah! el 2013 será el ano de las bodas – hasta el momento tenemos 10 y contando. Estamos muy emocionados por todas! Mucho amigos se comprometieron durante las vacaciones. Tenemos una en Febrero, Marzo, dos en Abril, una en Julio, una en Octubre y dos que todavia no tenemos fecha. De locos. Asi que – si nada pasa el 2013 por lo menos lo recordaremos por todas la bodas que tuvimos y va a ser genial!Si llegaste hasta aca abajo, gracias por leer todo lo que hicimos el 2012 y FELIZ ANO NUEVO! |
