Well folks, we’re now 4 days into Insanity and it’s been an experience already! When we started P90X we decided to do the program by the book to determine whether or not the program really worked and to get the maximum results. With Insanity, we are more interested in starting a new workout for change and staying healthy and fit. So we aren’t too torn up about working out every other day instead of 6 days in a row with one day off. In the end, it looks like we’ll be working out 4 days a week (every other day) and taking the other three days off. |

As far as the nutrition plan goes, we’re going to stick to what we were doing with P90X in terms of the amount of fruits and veggies we eat a day, but we’re going to take it easy when it comes to limiting carbs and loading on the protein. The Insanity nutrition plan actually calls for more carbs (thank you Insanity!) which is great for our wallet because carbs are cheap. Like the P90X plan, Insanity calls for high amounts of protein which Javi will happily indulge but I’m going to take it easy on loading up my plate with tons of meat. I feel like we’ve both figured out which nutrition plan works for what we want (gaining, losing or maintaining weight) so we’ll just focus on eating healthy. |

that’s one of the tomatoes from our garden!! yum!
When we did the fit test last week, we found out that we maybe aren’t as fit as we thought we were! Insanity is totally different than P90X. The entire Insanity program (it seems) is very similar to the plyometrics workout from P90X, which was the hardest one for us. The great thing about the Insanity workouts is that they are much much shorter than P90X, which is a big help to us now that we are so busy. |

One major thing we learned during our first few workouts is that we (I!) really have to pace ourselves at the very beginning. The Insanity “warmup” is basically a workout in itself! Even when we first started P90X there was never a time that I couldn’t finish an entire workout. I maybe had to stop for longer breaks, but I could always finish. When we did our first real workout for Insanity, I couldn’t do the last two rounds of exercises (about 10 minutes) – not even after a long break. My body just totally gave up! I pushed myself too hard at the beginning and didn’t save enough energy for the last few minutes. |

these are before / after a workout pics – we are totally exhausted!

The initial verdict on Insanity is that we really like it already. The shorter workouts, fast pace and variety of moves make it a perfect choice for our second exercise program of 2012. We’ll keep posting with more Insanity updates as we go along! |

I’m considering hiring you a statistical specialist to keep track of all the numbers, days, body measurements, and so on. (First I need to check with my financial planner).
