Remember Insanity? Yeah, we do too.

Today’s weather is beyond perfect and that’s great for me because I’m shooting a wedding this afternoon and it’s an outdoor wedding! It’s a risk to plan an outdoor wedding in Nashville, especially in the fall when you plan on cooler weather but the heat index remains in the 90s. But today…today I’m happily drinking my hot coffee on the porch this morning without sweating and I’ve got my sweatshirt collar popped up to cover my neck because I’m too lazy to go into the attic and get out my scarves just yet. Perfect. Perfecto.

So anyway, the point of this post is that with the new season, Javi and I kicked off a new workout regime. If you thought we were all talk and no action with our Insanity workouts, then you were absolutely correct. We did about exactly 2 weeks of Insanity and summer took over. My thesis got in the way, Javier’s work schedule was incompatible with mine, we traveled a ton, and we were willing to use these excuses to cut out our workouts. Which, given all the advice we gave about making time to do just a measly hour workout in your home back when we wrote about our experience with P90X, is just plain pathetic. So we decided once the semester started to get back into the workout groove.

Here’s the catch – Javi’s not the biggest fan of Insanity on its own. First of all, it’s brutal. It hurts our knees and totally wears us out. He also wants more weightlifting incorporated into our workout schedule. SO, we did some research online and looked up a hybrid schedule for P90X and Insanity so we can get a nice mix of cardio / plyometrics and weight lifting. Insanity has weightlifting using the weight of your body, but let’s face it – it’s almost 100% cardio (at least in the first month – we still haven’t tried the DVDs from the second 30 days). So now here we are with P90X and Insanity altering every other day. It’s killer.

The worst workout we’ve had to do so far is Pure Cardio with Ab Ripper X at the end. I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my entire life. Ab Ripper X is painful after an hour of weightlifting but after 30 minutes of nonstop Insanity cardio (literally – no break) it’s almost impossible. I was so bummed because I couldn’t get all the way through the exercises like I could back in April, but I think some of that has to do with the fact that it was coming after the hardest Insanity workout in the bunch. Makes me tired thinking about it.

Anyway, so we will be updating as we go along with this, and we’re promising to stick to it. So far we love it – it’s a mix of what we both love in workouts and we are happy to be back in a routine again. So here’s to the new season!

    • thanks! We finished P90X back in May which did put us into pretty good shape, this is mostly just to keep it up so we stay healthy and feelin good, especially with the holidays coming up! don’t want to have to go through all the work of P90X from scratch again in the spring…

  1. even the names p90x and insanity just sound brutal. maybe in the new year i’ll give it a shot. i’m a little intimidated. it makes my 5k endeavor seem not so impossible tho! lol

  2. I remember seeing that you guys were going to start Insanity and totally got it, too! I’m on the third week of the second set of workouts (the ‘Max…’ ones) and it’s really tough in that ‘I think I might die’ kind of way.

  3. I loved doing Insanity, but by the last week, the level just shot right up and I swear unless you are an Olympian you are not going to get all the way through that! At least not the first time you do Insanity! Definitely something to work to! Enjoy your hybrid! Sounds great! x

    • we haven’t even gotten to the latter DVDs in Insanity – we’ve restarted so many times I’m a pro at the first ones! haha we’ll be suffering by the time we get to the last workouts in the program – we start them in a couple weeks! 🙂

  4. Hey There. I discovered your blog the usage of msn. This is an extremely well written article.
I’ll make sure to bookmark it and return to read extra of your helpful information. Thank you for the post. I will certainly comeback.
