Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very bad (just kidding it was awesome) Weekend

What a weekend! Going into it Javi and I didn’t have a ton of stuff planned but boy are we good at filling up our time. On Friday evening Javi and I experimented with making sweet potato chips. Everyone has since told me that it’s really not hard to make anything “chips” but I had my doubts at first. We harvested the sweet potatoes from our backyard a couple weeks ago and finally decided to cook a few up, so I peeled them and Javi sliced them up and fried them in some canola oil. Not the healthiest option, but it was definitely a tasty one!

Que fin de semana! Cuando llego el fin de semana no teniamos nada planeado pero somos muy buenos para ocupar nuestro tiempo. El Viernes en la tarde, Javi y yo experimentamos haciendo papitas fritas con camotes. todo el mundo me ha dicho desde entonces que hacer “chips” es facil pero tenia mis dudas. Cosechamos los camotes de nuestra huerta un par de semanas atras y por fin nos decidimos en cocinarlos, asi que los pele y Javi los corto muy finitos y los puso a freir en aceite de canola. No es la opcion mas saludable, pero sin duda una muy sabrosa!

I kicked off Saturday with a morning practice with Hickory Slim’s – my new (old) band that I’ll post more about sometime soon. Suffice it to say that the four of us were once the five of us in the band Angus Whyte and the Irish Rednecks when I was in college (2006-2008). Back in May the four of us still living in Nashville decided to get back together and make some music and we’ve been having a blast since then playing old songs and working up new ones. Any Saturday that starts off with some fresh coffee and music making is a great day in my book.

Comenze el Sabado con una practica con los Hickory Slim’s – my nueva (antigua) banda – les contare mas sobre la banda mas adelante. Les puedo decir que los cuatro antes eramos cinco y esa banda se llamaba Angus White and the irish Rednecks cuando estabamos en la universidad (2006 – 2008). En Mayo de este ano, los cuatro que somos ahora todavia viviamos en Nashville y decidimos juntarnos nuevamente para hacer musica y lo hemos pasado genial tocando canciones de antes y creando canciones nuevas. Cualquier Sabado que empieza con cafe fresco y musica es un gran dia a mi parecer.

On Saturday afternoon Javi and I spent several hours in the library; Javi worked on his class and I read for my special area exam that’s fast approaching. We were amazed with how much work we were able to accomplish in one afternoon, likely due to the conspicuous lack of dog and garden-related distractions. On Saturday night we headed out to Alley Pub to hear my dad’s band West End Rhythm Kings play! Alley Pub is a new venue for them and it was awesome – they had a huge crowd that loved the music and the show was great. I got to get up and sing a couple songs before we had to head home – nothing better than starting and ending the day with music!

El Sabado en la tarde, Javi y yo pasamos varias horas en la biblioteca; Javi estudiando para su clase y yo lei para mis examenes de area que se vienen pronto. Es impresionante cuando trabajo pudimos completar en una tarde, lo mas seguro que es gracias a la falta de distraccion por los perros o el jardin. El Sabado en la noche fuimos al Alley Pub a escuchar a mi papa y su banda los West End Rhythm Kings! Alley Pub es un lugar nuevo para ellos asi que fue genial – habia mucha gente y les encanto la musica y el show fue genial. Yo pude cantar un par de canciones con ellos antes de tener que volver a casa – nada mejos que comenzar y terminar el dia con musica!

Sunday…Sunday was a crazy day. I spent the morning doing more work for my exam and when 1:00 rolled around Javi dropped me off at Traveller’s Rest off Franklin Pike to shoot a wedding. The weather was fabulous – low 70s and not a cloud in the sky. The wedding was beautiful and I can’t wait to put it on the photography blog, but to hold folks over I included the two photos (below) that I already posted on my facebook page. After the wedding I had just enough time to head over to Eric’s house for a little band reunion! John, the banjo player from Angus Whyte and the Irish Rednecks, was in town for the week before he and his wife Sarah move to Berlin so we were able to get the whole band together for some late night jamming and bonfire hanging. What a great group of people and a fun way to cap off the weekend!

El Domingo…el Domingo fue de locos. Pase la manana haciendo un poco mas de trabajao para mis examenes y cuando llego la 1 de la tarde, Javi me fue a dejar a Traveller’s Rest en Franklin Pike para sacar fotos de un matrimonio. El tiempo estaba fabuloso – mas o menos 22 grados sin nubes. La boda fue preciosa y no puedo esperar para compartir las fotos en mi blog de fotografia, pero para que se puedan aguantar un poco inclui 2 fotos (abajo) que ya puse en mi facebook. Despues del matrimonio tuve suficiente tiempo para ir a la casa de Eric para una reunion de banda! John, quien tocaba el banjo en Angus White and the Irish Rednecks estaba de visita en Nashville con su esposa Sarah, antes de mudarse a Berlin. Asi que pudimos juntar a toda la banda y tocar musica junto a una fogata. Que mejor grupo de gente y que mejor manera de cerrar el fin de semana!
