The weekend we hosted 6

A few weekends ago Javier and I hosted more people than ever before in our little mansion – all told there were 8 of us sleeping under one roof! Danielle, Gretchen, Sarah, David, Brandon and Chris all came to Nashville for a weekend visit that went by WAY too fast. In case you didn’t catch the last time I wrote about a get-together with these folks, they are a few of my closest friends from high school. Well, most of them from high school – Chris and Sarah joined the crazy group when they started dating Dani and David, respectively, in college. Brandon and Gurt are high school sweethearts (and married), Dani and Chris are getting hitched next spring. There – all clear?

It’s HARD to find a weekend when all of us can get together – the last time we managed to accomplish such a feat was in September when we went to Dale Hollow lake. This time we decided to kick it in Nashville, but there just wasn’t enough time for me and Javi to show them everything this city (and our awesome neighborhood) has to offer. You see…our secret (not so secret?) plan is to convince them all to move here…

On Friday we spent the evening on the porch having a few brews (this was the weekend that we put P90X on hold…) – it was a gorgeous night and we were happy to put the porch to good use for the first time this summer. On Saturday we took it easy – it rained so our plans of hanging out by my parents’ pool were replaced with lounging around the house until we walked over to Riverside Village for the Riverside Blossom Festival. I sang on the acoustic stage at 3:00 with my dad, but we arrived in time to wander around the festival for a bit. I actually didn’t get to see much of it, which was a bummer for me because I had some grand plans of getting a ton of photos to share on here. They got to get a good taste of what riverside village has to offer while I set up with my dad, then we played music for an hour. The weather held out for our set and there were a ton of people at the festival so we had a pretty good turnout between people coming and going by the stage. It was so fun for me to sing for the Louisville crowd – they hadn’t been to one of my shows since high school!

After the festival we spent an hour downtown getting coffee at Mike’s ice cream and then a beer on the patio at Rippys, then it was off to Monell’s in Germantown! I’m telling you…it was one thing after another so we could get as much as we could packed into a few short days. We packed a cooler of beer for Monell’s but none of us had more than one sip of beer because we were so full of the delicious food! At Monell’s it’s all you can eat and BYOB, so we figured the guys would especially love to try out that little slice of Nashville heaven. It was perfect but we overate…by 9:30 we were all ready to go to sleep! Still, we rallied and spent another late night catching up and enjoying time spent in the same zip code.

The guys working at Mike’s wrote this on Sarah’s cup!

Danielle, Chris, Gretchen and Brandon all left the next morning and Javi and I went with  David and Sarah back downtown to have lunch at Jack’s barbecue. We were still full from Monell’s, but grabbing a bite of bbq is an essential closing stop for a Nashville trip. After that David and Sarah hit the road and we were left in what felt like a very, very empty house after an awesome and crazy weekend. I LOVE spending time with these guys and I miss them so much – Nashville would be a little bit of heaven on earth if I could somehow convince my friends living up north (and west – looking at you too, Corinne) to move here! Buuuut until we’re all in the same city, we’ll just keep living it up in random 72-hour stints!

  1. We are hoping to go through Nashville later this year when we make our annual trek to Florida in September – Coming from Canada, we try to take a different route every year to see as many different things/places as possible – the drive is the best part of the vacation! Always meet great people along the way – try take in some smaller roads for part of the trip to get an idea of the local color! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • Nashville is great – you should definitely make it a stop on the way! And get barbecue at Jack’s downtown! 🙂

      • I will keep that in mind and how did you know we just LOVE BBQ! 😉

  2. Why is it that every time we all get together the finger game pops up….your wedding, the lake, nashville…anyway I loved the post and cant wait for another. We will definitely have to use doodle to schedule our next get together!!

  3. […] got hitched last year. Speaking of dear friends, we also had a couple of friends visit us here – first we had Dani, Chris, Gretchen, Winkler, David and Sarah all in one weekend (crazy!) and then Corinne came and stayed with us too! All of these weddings and visits were the highlight […]
