This past weekend flew by! It was an extra long weekend for Javi – he only had a half day on Friday and he had Monday off. Even though I don’t technically have an office job, with my master’s thesis looming overhead and ample RA work I definitely don’t feel like I’m off for the summer so when Javi gets a few days off I feel like it’s a bit of a relief for me too. My dad left to speak at a conference in Denmark on Friday so on Friday evening we had mom and gma over for their mother’s day steak dinners – finally! Javi grilled the steaks and corn and we ate on the porch, then took a trip to Jeni’s ice cream for the first time since February, before we started P90X. I just got the small cup but Javi got a gigantic sundae! This is what happens when you go a long time without ice cream…gotta make up for lost time I guess. |
On Saturday we worked all morning (Javi in the garden, I on my thesis) and then in the afternoon we drove out to the George Dickel distillery in Tullahoma, TN for our friends James and Emily’s wedding! It was a super hot day but the wedding was outside in a little valley and the shade had already covered the whole area by the time the wedding started so it was the perfect temperature and just BEAUTIFUL. The weather really couldn’t have been more perfect for an outdoor wedding, which is a huge gamble in Tennessee at the beginning of the summer! James and Emily are two of the most creative people I know, which was evident in every last detail of the wedding. Even the straws for the drinks were cute. They created these awesome fans / programs for the ceremony, had all these cute little glass woodsy figurines everywhere, their cake topper of their likenesses was awesome, I mean they thought of everything! It was a beautiful wedding and we had a blast dancing to the band and jumping in and out of the photobooth. Congratulations James and Emily! |
On Sunday we spent the day running errands and doing more work on the garden and thesis, then we headed over to my parents’ house for one of my mom’s fabulous homemade dinners. For memorial day we just went back over to their house pretty early to spend the day by the pool. We watched Brian Baker win the first round in the French Open (!!!!!!) and then I worked on the thesis by the pool while Javi took a nap in the shade…it was a perfect afternoon compete with another delicious lunch from the grill! All in all an awesome holiday weekend! |
