Back in January I posted about my incredible study abroad experience in Santiago de Compostela in 2006. Aside from that one 6-month trip I’ve been back to Santiago de Compostela twice – once for two months in the summer of 2007 to visit friends and do the Camino for my senior thesis and again in May of 2010 for my good friend Tara’s wedding. Tara and I were studying abroad at the same time and we kept in touch after we came back to the states. Neither of us could get Santiago out of our systems – I was able to get a quick fix of Santiago in the summer of 2007 to partially cure my longing for Galicia but Tara actually moved back over there to teach English in the fall of 2007. She met Jorge shortly after moving back and they got engaged in 2009. |

Aparte de ese viaje de 6 meses, he vuelto a Santiago dos veces – la primera por 2 meses durante el verano del 2007 para visitar a mis amigos y hacer el Camino para mi tesis y una vez mas en Mayo del 2010 para el matrimonio dem i buena amiga Tara. Tara y yo estudiamos estudiamos en Santiago al mismo tiempo y nos hemos mantenido en contacto desde entonces. Ninguna de nosotras puede sacarse Santiago de la mente – yo pude distrarme un poco con mi visita el verano del 2007 y eso me curo un poco de extranar Galicia, pero Tara se mudo a Santiago para ensenar Ingles en el otono del 2007. Conocio a Jorge al poco tiempo y se comprometieron el 2009. |
| When we were living in Santiago in 2006, Tara was always great about coming to hear me sing at Ambigu or listening to me play my little travel guitar in parque Bonaval. After we came home and I released the CD The Santiago Set she wrote the sweetest review of it on CD Baby and passed the music around to a few of her friends from college at Loras. She was always so supportive of my music and when she asked me if I’d be willing to come out and sing during the wedding ceremony I was beside myself to get a chance to go out to Santiago to be a part of her wedding. Her family flew me out there and I stayed with the videographer and photographer in an apartment in the city for most of the time and then a few nights with my girl Carolina – another highlight of the trip. It was great to get to meet Matt Brue of Capture Studios and Eliesa Johnson of Eliesa and PhotogenInc – she’s a phenomenal photographer and you MUST check out her photos of Tara and Jorge’s wedding (the photos are in the featured section). Seriously – just do yourself a favor and take a few minutes to see the incredible beauty of this wedding through her lens. Another sweet bonus to the trip was that I got to spend time with Molly, another friend from study abroad who also felt the need to move to Spain to get a long term fix to the “missing Galicia” ailment from which we all suffer. She and Tara are friends from college and she was at the wedding too – it was an awesome reunion! | Cuando viviamos en Santiago durante el 2006, Tara siempre iba a escucharme cantar en Ambigu o siempre estaba cuando me ponia a tocar mi guitarra de viaje en el parque Bonaval. Despues de volver a los Estados Unidos, saque mi CD El Set de Santiago y ella escribio el comentario mas dulce en CD Baby y paso la musica a varios de sus amigos en la Universidad Loras. Ella siempre me apoyo con mi musica y cuando me pregunto si yo estaba dispuesta a ir a su boda y cantar durante la ceremonia yo estaba muy muy feliz de poder ir a Santiago y participar en el matrimonio. Su familia me compro un pasaje y me quede junto con el videografo y la fotografa en un departamento en la ciudad por unas cuantas noches y despues me quede con mi buena amiga Carolina – otra de las cosas importantes de mi viaje. Fue genial poder conocer a Matt Brue de Capture Studios y Eliesa Johnson de Eliesa y PhotogenInc – ella es una fotografa fenomenal y TIENEN que ver sus fotos de la boda de Tara y Jorge. En serio – hanganse un favor y tomense unos minutos para ver la increible belleza de esta matrimonio a travez de su lente. Otro bonus del viaje es que pude pasar un tiempo con Molly, otra amiga que hize en Santiago y que tambien sintio la necesidad de mudarse a Espana para deterner la necesidad de Galicia que todos sufrimos. Ella y Tara son amigas de la universidad y tambien estaba en el matrimonio – fue una reunion genial! |
| Tara’s wedding was one of those crazy weddings that you have to experience to believe. Tara really did get that insanely beautiful almost royal wedding that girls dream of. First of all, the wedding was in Santiago de Compostela…so that just speaks for itself. The ceremony was in the church that Jorge attended as a boy in a little town outside of Santiago. The church was charming and pretty much exactly how you’d picture a little stone Galician church in the countryside. I sang in the choir loft with two string musicians for accompaniment. The church carried the music beautifully – the acoustics were incredible and everything was just perfect. Also, the great thing about having a wedding in a church like this (and, for that matter, having a reception in a place like the Parador…) is that there is absolutely no need for any decorations because everything is so beautiful on its own. The reception was held at the Parador, Santiago’s famous Hotel de los Reyes Católicos which is right next to the Cathedral. This place…I can’t even describe how breathtakingly beautiful it is. It originally served as the Royal Hospital, was built in 1499 and is now considered the oldest hotel in the world. The reception had balconies that look out to the cathedral…I could have stayed out on a balcony all night soaking up the view. In Spain the meal is the highlight of the reception and we spent at least two hours eating this fabulous 5-course meal with incredible gourmet seafood and, true to Tara’s taste, chocolate brownies (American style) instead of wedding cake. It goes without saying that we partied until we couldn’t anymore and of course I had my camera with me so we made a little photobooth that I ran through the night. | La boda de Tara fue una de esas bodas increibles que tienes que vivir para creer. Tara en verdad tuvo una de esas ceremonias preciosas casi de realeza que las ninas siempre suenan tener. Primero que nada, la boda fue en Santiago de Compostela…asi que eso ya habla por si solo. La ceremonia fue en la iglesia que Jorge visitaba de nino en un pueblito a las afueras de Santiago. La iglesia era muy linda y practicamente exacto a los que te imaginas cuando dicen una pequena iglesia de piedra en el campo Galiciano. Yo cante con el coro en el balcon junto a dos de cuerdas que em acompanaron. La iglesia sonaba precioso – la acustica era increible y todo era simplemente perfecto. Lo otro genial sobre tener la ceremonia en una iglesia como esta (y tambien tener una fiesta en un logar como el Parador…) es que no hay necesidad de decorar porque todo es precioso tal cual. La recepcion fue en el Parador, un famoso hotel de Santiago, Hotel de los Reyes Catolicos que queda justa al lado de la Catederal. Esta lugar…no puedo describirlo, te quita el aliento lo hermoso que es. Originalmente era el Hospital Real, construido en 1499 y es ahora considerado el hotel mas antiguo del mundo. La fiesta tenia balcones con vista a la catederal…me pude haber quedado toda la noche admirando la vista. En Espana la comida el la parte mas importante de la fiesta y pasamos por lo menos 2 horas comiendo esta fabulosa cena de 5 platos con comida del mar y, para el gusto de Tara, brownies de chocolate (estilo Americano) en vez de torta. No es necesario decir que la fiesta duro hasta que no podiamos mas y por su puesto yo tenia mi camara para sacar fotos toda la noche. |

Muchas gracias Leslie, Estoy muy contento porque pasaras ese día tan especial de nuestras vidas con nosotros. El día de nuestra boda, en especial a mi me ayudaste mucho porque mientras estaba esperando por Tara para las fotos estabas conmigo, y así la espera pareció mas corta de lo que realmente fue. Muchas gracias por todo y sabes que cuando queráis tenéis una casa en Santiago. Un beso
