| After starting the garden and installing the hammocks in the backyard, we are spending much more time with Chupete and Choripan in the backyard. We would love to be able to spend even more time in this peaceful space, but Tennessee has decided to heat things up (quite a bit) and staying outside, even under nice tree shade, becomes impossible after a few minutes. I think that after this weekend I will be harvesting cooked vegetables from our plants…ready to eat, no cooking required! | Despues de empezar la huerta e instalar las hamacas en el patio, ahora pasamos mucho mas tiempo con Chupete y Choripan afuera. Nos encantaria poder pasar aun mas tiempo en esta espacio tan pacific, pero Tennessee decidio que era hora de calendar las cosas (bastante) y pasar tiempo afuera, incluso a la sombra, se vuelve imposible despues de unos minutos. Creo que despues de este fin de semana podre cosechar vegetales cocidos directo de las plantas…listos para comer, no se necesita cocinar! |
| So in our constant quest to save money, help the planet and having fun doing it, we realized that we are not taking advantage of what Tennessee is offering us. Everything is drying up outside, so why aren’t we drying up our clothes out there!?!?! Right? If the weather gives you lemons, make lemonade and save the money for beer! | Asi que en nuestra constant busqueda para ahorrar plata, ayudar al planeta, y pasarlo bien mientras lo hacemos, nos dimos cuenta que no estabamos aprovechando lo que Tennessee nos esta ofreciendo. Todo afuera se esta secando, asi que por que no secamos nuestra ropa afuera!?!?!?! Verdad? Si el tiempo te da limones, prepara limonada y salva la plata para comprar cerveza! |
| Fortunately, we had a couple of steel posts that the previous owner of our house already installed for a clothesline, so the set up was ready and I just needed to get the line, some pins, and a way to keep the line taut. I looked online and got 200ft of clothesline – there are many different materials but I chose a cotton / polyester mix – a couple of S-Hooks, a clothesline “tightener” (a really cool little gadget!) , and some clothes pins. Setting everything up took me about 5 minutes (probably 4 minutes of which was spent trying to untangle the line), and now we have 50 feet of line where we can dry our clothes FOR FREE! | Por suerte, tenemos un par de postes metalicos en el patio que el dueno anterior tenia instalados para colgar ropa, asi que la parte principal estaba hecha y yo solo necesitaba comprar cuerda, perros para ropa, y algo que me ayudara a manterner la cuerda tirante. Busque en internet y compre 100 metros de cuerda – hay muchos tipos de materiales que se pueden comprar, pero yo elegi uno que mezcla algodon y polyester – un par de ganchos S, un aparatito para manterner la cuerda tirante (muy buen articulo!), y algunos perros para ropa. Instalar todo me tomo como 5 minutos (probablemente 4 se me fueron desenrredando la cuerda), y ahora tenemos muchos metros de cuerda donde podemos colgar nuestra ropa y secarla GRATIS! |
| We are saving money in electricity and dryer sheets, spending more time outdoors, reducing our carbon footprint, adding some color to our backyard and using the energy of the sun! Old school is the new school for us! We will be back to the dryer during the winter, but for now, Mother Nature is working for us. | Estamos ahorrando plata en electricidad y hojas de secado, pasamos mas tiempo afuera, reducimos nuestra huella de carbon, agregamos color al patio y estamos usando la energia del sol! A la antigua es ahora a la moderna para nosotros! Volveremos a usar la secadora en el invierno, pero por ahora, la madre naturaleza esta trabajando para nosotros. |
