| Even though we’re technically back to the regular routine of work, class, homework and everything else that regularly occupies our time, Javier and I had to resist the return to the grind and ease our way through the transition from summer to fall. On Saturday of Labor Day weekend we decided to make a 2-day trip to Soddy Daisy, TN to visit Melissa and Andre. Melissa, my aunt, is one of the craftiest, most artistic, creative human beings on the planet and we’ve been dying to see her craft warehouse that Andre built for her. We’ve also been eager to see the marina where they live (Sale Creek Marina) and that Andre owns. The trip to Sale Creek Marina is about 2.5 hours from Nashville, so we left in the morning and arrived just in time for lunch. | A pesar de que tecnicamente estamos de vuelta en la rutina regular de trabajo, clases y todo lo demás que ocupa nuestro tiempo, Javi y yo nos resistimos en volver a la resfriega y preferimos hacer una transición mas fácil del verano al otoño. El fin de semana del Día del Trabajo, decidimos hacer un viaje de 2 dias a Soddy Daisy, TN a visitar a Melissa y Andre. Melissa, mi tía, es una de las personas mas artesanales, mas artísticas, y mas creativas que existe en el planeta, y nos moriamos por poder ver su sala de arte que Andre le construyo. También teniamos muchas ganas de ver la marina donde viven (Sale Creek Marina) y que Andre es el dueno, El viaje a Sale Creek Marina es mas o menos 2.5 horas desde Nashville, asi que salimos en la manana para llegar a tiempo para almorzar. |

| The marina is beautiful. Melissa and Andre live in a sweet house right on the edge of the marina in front of the covered dock. They have a huge porch that looks out onto the lake through the trees and a walkway from the porch leads straight to the dock. Melissa and Andre took us on a quick tour with their sweet pup Bear, then Melissa took us to see the craft warehouse. This place is AMAZING. Melissa has a wall to wall collection of art, toys, jewelry, tins, old lady purses, swatches of vintage fabric, felt, yarn, purses that she knitted – it’s just the most incredible collection of items. Melissa’s art and creations line the walls of the building and it’s so cool that I’m going to have to save a description of her art for a whole separate post (later this week)! | La marina es preciosa. Melissa y Andre viven en una linda casa justo en el borde de la marina, al frente del puerto techado. Tienen un porch enorme y se puede ver el lago entre los arboles y un sendero que va directo al puerto. Melissa y Andre nos dieron un tour junto con su dulce perrito, Bear, y luego Melissa nos llevo a su sala de arte. Este lugar es increíble. Melissa tiene, de muralla a muralla, una colección de arte, juguetes, joyas, tarros de lata, carteras antiguas, telas antiguas, felpa, lana, carteras que ella tejió – es la colección mas increíble de cosas. El arte de Melissa cubre las murallas del lugar, y es tan genial que voy a tener que guarda la descripción de su arte para un post dedicado solo a eso (mas tarde esta semana)! |

| One of the highlights of the trip was an adventure on the lake in Andre’s sailboat the Duchess! He and Melissa took us out in the boat in the evening just as hurricane Isaac winds were starting to kick in. I swear I thought that boat was going to topple over when it leaned dangerously close to one side or another – I’d never been sailing before so that was new for me! Andre never looked alarmed and he’s a seasoned sailor so I got over it pretty quick. Andre has been sailing his whole life and knows everything there is to know about the sport and pastime so he educated us (and especially Javi, who helped with ropes and other sailboat things) while we were out on the water. The lake was lovely and calm, the weather was perfect and we brought a little picnic of hummus and beer for the trip. To top it off, we saw a lovely rainbow as we started heading back to the marina! | Una de las cosas mas geniales del viaje, fue la aventura en el lago en el velero de Andre, la Duquesa! El y Melissa nos llevaron en el bote la tarde que los vientos del huracán Isaac comenzaron a soplar. Les juro que pense que el bote se iba a dar vuelta cuando se inclinaba hacia un lado – nunca había navegado a vela ai que todo era nuevo para mi! Andre nunca se vio alarmado, y el tiene experiencia en navegación, así que me calme rápidamente. Andre has navegado toda su vida y sabe todo lo que se necesita saber sobre el deporte y el pasatiempo, así que nos trato de ensenar (y especialmente a Javi, que ayudo un poco con algunas cuerdas) mientras estábamos en el agua.El lago estaba tranquilo, el tiempo estaba perfecto y trajimos un picnic de humus y cerveza para el paseo. Para hacerlo aun mejor, vimos un arcoiris precioso cuando íbamos de vuelta a la marina! |
| On Saturday night we drove to Chattanooga for dinner and then took a stroll on a walking bridge over the Tennessee River. Saturday night was the real adventure – we slept inside the sailboat!! Javi and I had the option of the blowup mattress in the living room or sleeping inside the sailboat – and really, when you get the chance to sleep in a boat can you really pass it up?! We were excited to act like real sailors for the night and sleep in the bunks inside the boat (inside the Duchess sounds a little off huh?). There was no AC but we had a fan and we slept pretty soundly! On Sunday morning we woke up and went with Melissa to the Soddy Daisy flea market. I came away with a ton of tiny bottles to put on the windowsill for roses and a new (old) perfume bottle that Javi cleaned out and filled with my perfume. So cool! | El Sábado en la noche, manejamos rumbo a Chattanooga para cenar y dimos un paseo por el puente de peatones que cruza el rio Tennessee. El Sábado en la noche fue una real aventura – dormimos dentro del velero!!! Javi y yo teniamos la opcion de un colchon inflable en el living o dormir en el bote – y en serio, cuando tienes la oportunidad de dormir en un bote, se puede dejar pasar?! Estabamos felices de actuar como marineros por una noche y dormir en la literas dentro del bote (dentro de la Duquesa suena un poco extrano no?) No habia aire acondicionado pero lo pasamos bien y dormimos como rocas! El Domingo en la manana nos despertamos y fuimos con Melissa a la feria de las pulgas de Soddy Daisy. Sali con un monton de botellitas para poner rosas en las ventanas y una botella antigua con atomizador para poner perfume. Javi la lavo y puso mi perfume en ella. Genial! |
| The weekend was amazing and we can’t wait to get back to visit them. I’m sure it’s GORGEOUS in the fall with all the leaves changing so it’d be really nice to get back soon! | El fin de semana fue espectacular y nos puedo esperar para ir a visitarlos nuevamente.
