Wedding weekend part 1!

Javier and I spent this weekend in major party mode. I think I wore half of the dresses in my closet this weekend with all the fun wedding festivities going on! On Friday and Saturday night we attended two amazing weddings – one in Nashville and the other in Birmingham. This post is part 1 of our recap of the wedding weekend extravaganza.
On Friday night Ellen, one of my best friends from college, married her love Kyle. But this post doesn’t start on Friday…we’re rewinding to the rehearsal dinner on Thursday to get a glimpse of all the festivities that made this such a fun celebration. On Thursday we had the rehearsal at Christ Church Cathedral, an Episcopal church on West End Ave. It was the first time I had ever been inside the church, which was built in 1894. The inside of the sanctuary was absolutely breathtaking and it was 100x more so with Ellen walking down the aisle on Friday. The rehearsal dinner was an experience of delicious food, great people, moving toasts and much, much weeping, especially when the brother of the bride played a recording of a song that he wrote for her. The song had Ellen’s voice as a child playing in the background for part of it – so yeah, not a dry eye after that one.

On Friday morning we started off the day with an attendants brunch at Ellen’s aunt’s house with maybe the best quiche I’ve ever tasted. We inhaled coffee and mimosas and ate seconds (and thirds) of the quiche, then headed off to the salon for hair & makeup and to the church for photos. The weather for the day was flawless – not a cloud in the sky and in the lower 80s with no humidity, which is VERY unusual for Nashville in June. The ceremony was gorgeous – a harpist played Claude Debussy’s Claire de Lune for Ellen’s processional which was so perfect. It’s such a peaceful song – I’ve never heard it as a processional before and I absolutely loved it.

She’s so beautiful!! And her dress was stunning!! Also – loved the dress she picked out for the bridesmaids. Simple, beautiful color, and best of all…I could dance in it! Awesome.

After the new Mr. and Mrs. Bohle were presented to the congregation and we all recessed down the aisle we headed straight for the reception at the Noah Liff Opera Center. I never knew this building existed – it’s tucked away in the middle of Sylvan Park and it’s an awesome venue for a wedding. There was a nice balcony for people who wanted to get outside for a minute, space for two bars so there was never a huge line for drinks and, most importantly, a big dance floor with plenty of space to dance the night away, which we absolutely did. My one superficial regret of the night is that I didn’t get more photos during the reception, but frankly I was too busy dancing and having a good time and that’s why there’s a wedding photographer anyway. I really can’t wait to see the photos.

Ellen and Kyle hired probably the best wedding band I’ve ever heard. Javi and I were so impressed the whole night – they had little dances choreographed for different songs and the variety of music they played was phenomenal, including funk, rock, motown, current jams, even a little Prince. We had a BLAST dancing and Javi got up to dance for most of the night which basically made my year. We spent almost the whole night dancing and when it was time to say goodbye to Ellen and Kyle we all got glow sticks (I’d never seen this before and I LOVED it!) and waved them around as they made their escape in a sweet getaway car. So epic! This was such an amazing wedding and I was so honored to be a part of it!! Congratulations Ellen and Kyle!! Felicitaciones a Ellen y Kyle!!
