Last week was my birthday and since it fell on a Wednesday, it turned into a week-long celebration. On the Sunday before my birthday, my parents-in-law and grandma-in-law (yeah, I just said that and if it doesn’t exist I am bringing it to life…) had us over at their house to relax by the pool and have a dinner of my choice. The choice? Well, easy! Grilled steaks, grilled corn, grilled broccoli, and grilled veggies (Do you think I like to grill?), potato salad, avocado….a feast! For dessert, New York style cheesecake. Everything was so delicious and we made so much food that even Chupete and Choripan got to eat part of the left over steak from our plates. My in-laws are the best. That same weekend John was coming back from a conference in Denmark, so we got to talk about his trip and how awesome it would be to visit Denmark sometime. |
On Tuesday at work for a little birthday celebration we had milkshakes from Mike’s Ice Cream shop in downtown Nashville on the department’s tab (thanks everyone!). On Wednesday (my actual birthday), donuts showed up magically at work – thank you very much Diane! That night, Leslie and I went to Five Points pizza for pizza and beer, and for dessert we went to Jeni’s Ice Cream! If none of sounds like part of the P90X diet…well it’s not. We are taking a break before starting a new program. What mattered was that everything was delicious and that I was born and we needed to enjoy ourselves! |
To complete my birthday week, we Skyped with my parents in Chile where mom, dad, Maca, and Alex where celebrating my birthday (my older sister Paula wasn’t there but I got to talk to her on the phone later). By celebrating I mean celebrating for real – it wasn’t just a call to say happy birthday. They had a cake (one of my favorite kinds – Torta de Mil hojas with Manjar) and candles, and they sang happy birthday to me….and then I got to blow the candles thanks to some special effects. It was a really good birthday spent with my family in the US and in Chile, and with tons of good food. It’s really amazing to think that I had cakes in both hemispheres of the world and my families were “close” to me to celebrate. Two families, two cakes, two countries, and two languages for one birthday…I am a really lucky guy! |
