Well well well. Javi and I just got back from California and I’m pining the loss of 65 degree weather. You better believe I enjoyed every minute of leggings-and-sweatshirt weather while we were there…and it was a great weekend to get away from Nashville since it was a record-breaking 109 on Friday! I doubt even hell is that hot. Our plants and doggos survived the heat while we were away, but I’m not sure I would have set foot outside had I been home. Instead, Javi and I spent a lovely weekend walking around Seal Beach, taking pictures of my pretty cousins and relaxing by the pool. |
Bueno bueno bueno. |

Javi and I hadn’t been to California since January 2011 when we went out for the Chile / USA friendly game held in LA. I’ve gone to California every summer my entire life and last year I missed it – and didn’t get to go to the family “jam” party in my aunt and uncle’s garage. It was soooo depressing to miss it, and it didn’t help that my dad sent me a text every hour or so to remind me how much fun they were having without us. They hold the jam every year – the band sets up and plays til one of the three Seal Beach cops comes to shut them down (they have a permit this year so they are guaranteed a free party pass til 11!). It’s always a blast and my whole family usually comes out for it so it’s great to see everyone. |

California 2011 – before the Chile / USA game
Anyway, that’s not why we went out this past weekend – the jam isn’t until August this year. My aunt actually flew us out last weekend so I could take my cousin’s senior pictures! She’s from WA and she’ll be the only girl in her school with beach senior pics, which is actually something I did too! My aunt took mine at Seal Beach. Too bad I didn’t have the great fashion sense in high school that my cousins do – but it’s funny to see the photos side by side! We took the photos on Friday evening and we had a total blast – Deanna is SO GORGEOUS, so it was really really easy to take great pics of her. All my cousins are total babes…it’s crazy. |

The rest of the time we were either drinking and catching up with my aunts Shelley and Regena, playing scrabble with my uncle Warren, playing music with my uncle John or hanging out in the hot tub with the cousins. Shelley invited a bunch of friends over on Saturday for a little dinner party get-together complete with music in the garage – and one of her friends brought a cake for my birthday! She didn’t actually know me and I’m not sure she knew it was for my bday, but they put candles on it and I wore the infamous birthday hat (everyone wears this when it’s their bday in the fam) – it was awesome! As you can probably tell from the photos, the cake was DELICIOUS. |

It was an awesome weekend – and a great start to July! And…I’m missing Seal Beach so much that I just booked tickets to go back out for the jam!! Javi won’t be able to go which is a major bummer, but I’m really happy that I won’t have to suffer through my dad’s text messages this year from afar. I’ll be able to see the family and soak up a few more days of Seal Beach time before the semester starts. Hallelujah…now if I can just get through July! |

No place like Cali :).
Wow. You packed in a lot! Great tradition of family photographers for senior pics!
Wowzee! What great pictures for an ancient Grandma to gloat over! Thanks, Javi and Les, and I am so glad you had fun. I heard about the Scrabble game, a move of Leslie’s (who was ahead) allowing Warren to play his holdout. I could actually feel as though I was there. Thanks. Grandma/Joan
The cake appeared because Loren asked what to bring and because I had no plan for dessert I told her to bring chocolate cake or cupcakes:) ( I had just asked you what your favorite dessert was) I did not tell her why! But she thought it was funny I was so specific–Hey! I have to keep it simple!! loved the visit and SO excited you are coming for the jam!!
