| Our porch is, in my opinion, one of the best parts of our house and Javi and I spend as much time as we can out there. It’s also the home to the Porch Practice Sessions for Hickory Slims, so I spend quite a bit of time on that little slab of concrete in front of the house. After Javi screened it in we added a ton of beautiful lights for Christmas and…just like Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman” song, we kept those Christmas lights up all year long. They were too pretty to take down and the regular porch light is too harsh compared to the Christmas lights. | Nuestro porch del frente es, en mi opinion, sin dudas una de las mejoras partes de nuestra casa. Javi y yo pasamos la mayor parte del tiempo que podemos sentados ahi afuera. Tambien es el hogar de las Sesiones de Practica en el Porch de los Hickory Slims, asi que paso bastante tiempo en ese pedazo de concreto al frente de la casa. Despues que Javi instalo las mallas para los bichos, agregamos un monton de luces navidenas y…como Gretchen wilson en su cancion “Redneck Woman”, dejamos las luces instaladas todo el año. Son muy bonitas como para sacarlas y la luz de la lampara exterior que tiene el porch es muy fuerte comparada con las luces de navidad. |
before sprucing up
| Unfortunately, when we put them up last year we weren’t anticipating keeping them up so we used the cheap-o kind that burn out fairly quick. I’m actually surprised they lasted as long as they did, but we finally decided it was time to replace the strands that were burned out in various sections around the porch with some LED strands that will last longer and reduce our carbon footprint. Javier took down all the lights last week and removed the little lanterns around the ceiling strands and put up the new LED lights (with the lanterns back on them) – and now the porch is looking all spiffy again! Just in time for Christmas! | Desafortunadamente, cuando las instalamos el ano pasado no anticipamos que las dejariamos puestas todo el ano, asi que usamos las baratitas que se queman rapido. Estoy sorprendida que duraron lo que duraron, pero por fin decidimos que era tiempo de reemplazar las cuerdas que se quemaron en diferentes secciones por cuerdas de luces LED que duraran mas, son mas eficientes, y usan menos energia. Javier saco las luces viejas la semana pasada y tambien las pelotitas que hacian de pantallas en las luces del techo para reemplazarlas por las LED (puso las pelotitas en la nueva cuerda LED) y ahora el porch se ve todo lindo de nuevo! Justo a tiempo para la navidad! |
During the spruce up
| Exactly a year ago this weekend we decorated for Christmas – super early but that’s how we do it in our household! We didn’t get around to it this weekend but we definitely will next weekend. I’m so excited – and it’ll be just in time for the extra holiday cheer that I’ll need to boost my spirits in the midst of final paper season (which, of course, is part of the reason why we’re getting a little slow on the blog lately! it’ll pick back up soon!). Hope everyone had a great weekend! | Exactamente hace un ano decoramos para Navidad – muy temprano pero ese es el momento en que lo hacemos en esta casa! No pudimos decorar este fin de semana pero definitivamente lo intentaremos hacer el proximo. Estoy muy emocionada – y sera justo a tiempo para que el espiritu navidenos me levante el animo en tiempo de examenes finales (que, por su puesto, es la razon por la cual hemos posteado poco en el blog ultimamente! nos pondremos al dia pronto!) Esperamos que hayan tenido un muy buen fin de semana!! |
