Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

The latest edition of our we-love-East-Nashville-and-local-stuff series is dedicated to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. It’s located right next to the Silly Goose off of Eastland – and it really is splendid. They have ice cream flavors you’ve never been able to find but always wanted to try: salty caramel, Bangkok peanut (I think this one has cayenne in it – Javi got it and it was spicy!), black coffee, brown butter almond brittle, pistachio and honey, whiskey and pecans….the list goes on. The line is always long (but it moves fast) because everyone wants to try the different flavors or at least read the ingredients that go into, for example, but Buckeye State flavor (I think this one was peanut butter and chocolate?).

We went to Jeni’s last Saturday night with my mom and gma after eating dinner and listening to jazz music at the Family Wash (I told you this would become a regular thing…). I wish I could remember exactly what everyone ordered…I had two scoops, one of Buckeye State and one Salty Caramel. My mom and gma both got brown butter almond brittle for their first scoop…but I can’t remember their second ones. Javi got a sundae (I still can’t believe he ate a sundae after eating an entire shepherd’s pie and drinking a stout!) called One Night in Bangkok – it had the Bangkok peanut flavor with a banana and whipped cream…he couldn’t finish it. Spicy ice cream isn’t really my thing (but apparently salty ice cream is) – but he loved it.

Javi’s sundae!!

Both times we’ve been to Jeni’s my grandma is always so impressed with the prices. She’s used to Cold Stone creamery, where she used to take my cousins Madison and CJ when she lived in Seal Beach with them, and yes – Cold Stone is more expensive and much less exciting. Jeni’s falls in the medium price range for me and Javi, but well, well worth every penny. We love this place – the atmosphere, funky flavors and location (of course). We highly recommend a visit if you haven’t been yet!
