| Javier and I were not planning on doing anything special for the sex “reveal” of our kiddo. We didn’t feel much like planning a big to-do, and frankly we didn’t care much which of those parts our baby had as long as that heartbeat was strong and steady (among other health factors). We were able to find out as early as 10 weeks thanks to a test called the panorama, which is a form of NIPT (non-invasive prenatal screening test) that tests for genetic disorders early on in the pregnancy. Nobody has to take it, but we figured it’d be good to know as early on as possible if we needed to work with any specialists, and the added bonus was finding out the sex 10 weeks earlier than usual. I’m the most impatient person in the world, so it was a no-brainer for me. | Javier y yo no teníamos nada especial planeado para revelar el sexo de nuestro bebe. No teníamos ganas de planear algo grande, y francamente no nos importaba mucho mientras el bebe tuviera un latido del corazón fuerte (entre otros factores de salud). Pudimos saber el sexo del bebemuy temprano en el embarazo gracias a una prueba llamada el panorama. Un tipo de NIPT (pruebas prenatales no invasivas) que revisa el desarrollo del bebe y detecta ciertas enfermedades genéticas. No es obligatorio tomarla, pero decidimos que seria bueno saber si necesitamos trabajar con especialistas. La otra ventaja era descubrir el sexo 10 semanas antes de que lo normal. Soy la persona mas impaciente en el mundo, as que fue una decision fácil para mi. |
| When we told Ian and Andrea that we weren’t going to do a fun reveal, they pointed out that having a reveal party was an excellent excuse to eat cupcakes. SOLD. So I started asking around about where we could get delicious cupcakes with a colorful frosting center, and we found Elisha Risher, baker extraordinaire. My parents decided to drive up to Louisville for a few days during my dad’s spring break for a little family “reveal” party, and so we ordered a dozen cupcakes. | Cuando le dijimos a Ian y Andrea que no íbamos a hacer nada divertido para la revelacion, ellos nos dijeron que tener hacer una fiesta seria una buena excusa comer pastelitos. BUENO. Pregunte a gente en Louisville donde se puede encontrar pastelitos deliciosos con crema de colores a elección y escondida en el centro, y ahi nos encontramos con Elisha Risher, pastelera extraordinaria. Mis papas decidieron viajar de Nashville a Louisville por unos días durante las vacaciones de primavera de mi papa para la pequeña fiesta, así que ordenamos una docena de los pastelitos. |
| Javier and I didn’t want to be on the receiving end of the surprise…we figured it’d be so much more fun for us to see everyone else’s reactions. So when the doc office called me and asked if I was ready to find out, I gave them the green light and they told me I’m having a healthy baby GIRL. I was home alone when they gave me the news and my heart immediately filled to the brim with excitement. I’m sure it would’ve been the same for a boy; it was knowing a little more about this tiny human that was so special. Little Penelope!! So I called Javier and gave him the news while he was at work, and then let Elisha know what color to make the cupcakes. | Javier y yo no queríamos una sorpresa asi que decidimos que seria mejor para nosotros ver las reacciones de los demás. Cuando la doctora me llamo con la información y me pregunto si estaba lista saber las noticias, le dije que si y me dijo que voy a tener una NIÑA. Estaba en casa cuando me dijo las noticias, y mi corazón se lleno´ inmediatamente con emoción. Estoy segura que hubiera sido lo mismo si hubiese sido un niño; la cosa especial fue saber un poquito mas sobre este ser humano minúsculo. Pequeña Penelope!! Llamé a Javier y le di la noticia cuando estaba trabajando, y después pasé la información a Elisha para que ella pudiera hacer los pastelitos con la crema del color rosado. |
| Ian and Andrea explained to Gia how the cupcake surprise worked: pink icing in the middle for a girl, blue icing for a boy. I’m not sure if she actually wanted a girl or if she just wanted a cupcake with pink filling, but she was the first in my family to predict girl. Everyone else said girl except Ian on my side of the family, and everyone on Javier’s side of the family said girl except his sisters Maca and Paula. Javier and I brought the gorgeous cupcakes from Elisha over to Ian and Andrea’s house and we all counted down so that everyone would bite in at the same time. | Ian y Andrea explicaron a Gia como funcionaba la sorpresa de los pastelitos: crema rosa en el centro para una niña, crema azul para niño. No estoy segura si ella sinceramente quería que yo tuviera una niña o si ella simplemente quería un pastelito con crema rosa, pero ella fue la primera en mi familia en predecir niña. Todos los demás dijeron niña también, con la excepción de mi hermano, y por el lado de la familia de Javier todos predijeron niña menos sus hermanas Maca y Paula. Javier y yo trajimos los pastelitos de Elisha a la casa de Ian y Andrea y todos hicimos la cuenta regresiva juntos para comer los pastelitos al mismo tiempo. |
| We were right – seeing everyone’s reactions was priceless! And Ian and Andrea were right to encourage an excuse for eating delicious cupcakes. Elisha’s creations were incredible, and yes, they tasted as good as they looked. If you’re in Louisville and want her info for baking a cake let me know! We will be going back to her for all future cake needs…which I’m hoping will be very soon. Excuses for eating cake are very, very welcome to this second-trimester pregnant gal. | Teniamos razón – ver todas las reacciones fue excelente! Ian y Andrea también tenían razón que fue una excusa excelente para comer pastelitos. Las creaciones de Elisha fueron increibles, y si, eran tan deliciosos como se veían.
