Home again!

Ohhhh it is good to be home. I’m currently lounging on the couch, Chupi is curled up next to me asleep and snoring into my leg, West Wing season 3 is on, Javier is studying, the house smells like pesto pasta and life is GOOD. I’m so happy to be back! Humming House was on the road for three full weeks and then I spent a week out in California doing as many photo shoots as I could before coming back to Nashville finally on Nov. 4.

I’m not really sure how to adequately recap the entire month. One thing is certain – it was an amazing few weeks and, miraculously, I stayed healthy almost the whole trip. There was one low point for me in St. Louis when I started to feel the annual fall sickness coming on, but by the time we were in Colorado I was fine again. There are a few other totally random things I can say with certainty about the trip: an 8 hour drive is now something I consider to be a relatively easy haul, 12 hours is about where we cross the line into pushing it (this, coming from the girl who doesn’t ever actually drive the van – I try to stay awake for moral support). I swear by zinc tablets now – those, and oregano oil in my water for fighting colds. Colorado is still my favorite state, but wow the northeast is just beautiful in the fall. Even though it is supposedly the original, the cheesesteak from Pat’s King of Steaks was pretty mediocre. Speaking of food – chipotle burrito bowls and Panera autumn squash soup are THE #1 food options for the road. And speaking of the road, we have some truly amazing friends and family across the US that are willing to put us up for a day or two, feed us and tolerate our late night entries and early morning exits. The best beer was in Colorado, but Gella’s Diner and Brewery in Hays KS was spot on. One of my favorite performances was busking on Pearl Street in Boulder – probably because it was something different, but it was really fun. And finally, speaking of fun, I couldn’t ask for better travel companions / band mates, and that’s that.

There’s so much more to say about the trip – but I’ll post photos instead and move on to the next point. I didn’t expect to see so much of my family over the last month! When we were in Colorado we stayed one night with my cousins Suzy, Brian and Sarah in Rifle, CO. They’ve come to stay with us a few times in Nashville but I hadn’t ever been to their neck of the woods and I was totally blown away by how beautiful their part of CO is. All of CO is gorgeous, but the drive from Denver to Rifle was breathtaking and the view from their back porch was fantastic. My cousin Grace came to see our show in Denver – she’s from San Diego, but she’s currently at school just outside of Boulder so that was a fun meet up. After Denver I flew out to Seal Beach to stay with family and do some photo shoots, but I’ll save that for another post…
