Hickory Slims at Village Pub and YumEast!

Since March Hickory Slims has played a couple of shows that I never got around to posting about. Things have been so busy for us outside of music – Eric and Willie each bought a house, so they’ve been going crazy moving in and getting things settled in their respective homes. Josh and I were out playing music with Humming House on the road for a bit, and then of course I was in Denmark for 10 days. I also had my comprehensive exam in there somewhere, so it’s been kind of tough for us to get together and play much. Nevertheless, we had the chance to play two really fun shows in East Nashville.

The first show as at the Village Pub back in March. It was Easter weekend so we weren’t sure how many people we’d get out to the pub, but it turned out to be a great crowd and we had a blast playing for a few hours in a really low-key acoustic setting. The Village Pub is always fun for a relaxed evening of low pressure tunes and fun folks dancing around – so of course we felt right at home.

In June, just a couple of days after I got back from Denmark, we played at the inaugural YumEast! food festival right here in East Nashville. This was such a fun event and it was a huge success for their first year. Held at the East Centric Pavilion, the festival was full of food and drink vendors from all over this side of town. The ticket to get in bought an evening full of all the food and drink you can imagine, plus a really cool beer glass to boot. We played first and we had two 45 minute sets to jam and entertain the folks while they moseyed around tasting all the different foods. It was another low-key, beer-filled set – ideal for us! Thanks again to YumEast for having us – we really hope this happens again next year!
