Denmark – last day, last post!

On our very last day I was all tourist-ed out, so we decided to spend the day leisurely wandering around the city and shopping, getting rid of the last few kroner we had before returning home. I had already bought a souvenir – a couple of really nice hand painted mugs from a Copenhagen pottery, but Javier needed a souvenir and he figured he could find one at the flea market by the canal. So we headed off with mom and dad to the flea market booths and that market did not disappoint! The tables were all full of antiques – it was only antique dealers throughout – but the prices were completely reasonable which I was not expecting. I got a really cool porcelain pillbox for 25 kroner (about 4 dollars) and after shopping through the whole market, Javier finally decided on a cool stein mug that he can use for hot tea or cold beer. He saw similar steins in the museum and thought they were cool so that was a perfect souvenir for him. I also found a beautiful, ornate rose stem vase that I can use for roses from our garden, a cool last minute find.

On our way back to the hotel we stopped at a little coffee spot and while Javi and I stood outside waiting for mom and dad to come back out we saw a walking tour group standing in front of a building taking photos. We didn’t know what the building was but we knew Kierkegaard’s house was nearby and that mom and dad had wanted to see it, so he ran over there to check and sure enough, it was right there! So we surprised mom and dad with that discovery, and then mom and I found a legit thrift store right across the street from the house. We spent about 20 minutes in there and I found a really cool sailor-looking skirt that is perfect to wear on stage (see below – I wore it at a show with Hickory Slims!). Too fun!

It was a nice, leisurely way to spend the rest of our time in Copenhagen. We had a wonderful 9 days in Copenhagen, but we’d been without the dogs for 10 days and we were definitely ready to get back home to the doggos! We missed them a lot even though we got to see them from time to time on the webcams at The Dog Spot – and we hope they missed us too!
