This is going to sound weird (except to all the foodies out there) but breakfast was without a doubt the highlight of my day and one of my favorite parts of the trip. The breakfast in our hotel was included in the cost of the stay and it was incredible! Every night I was so excited to go to sleep just because I knew breakfast as only a few short hours away. It was that good. Mom and dad had stayed in this hotel previously and had told me about it, but I assumed it was just a “good” breakfast, where half of what constituted the “good” was the fact that we didn’t have to pay extra for it. This food though…it was fantastic. |
The hotel staff would provide us with a tray and I would get black coffee (sorte kaffe) every day and Javi would get his Earl Grey tea. The coffee everywhere we went was delicious – it reminded me of the Dragon Tattoo series. Everyone had coffee all the time, every restaurant, even some stores offered it. It was always really strong and there was plenty of it – not the tiny espresso coffees that I would get in Spain or France. Delicious! Delicioso! |
The rest of the breakfast included a hot croissant (sometimes with chocolate), various types of sandwiches (the only kind I ate every day was salami with cream cheese, guacamole and a red pepper), various kinds of yogurts (the one I always went for was the yogurt with fresh raspberries on top that I would mix in). Finally, there were different juices and milk at the end. The juices were apple and then strawberry / banana mix. I always had the apple – it was freshly juiced in the hotel and so delicious! |
I miss that breakfast!! I was really excited to savor my last breakfast the morning we left, but they didn’t have my favorite yogurt!!! I was disappointed for about two seconds and then I ate the one with strawberries, which was almost as tasty. Anyway, many thanks to the Isbens hotel for such a wonderful start to every day in Copenhagen! |

Coffee!!!! I think I would do well in a culture that appreciates breakfast and coffee in extreme portions! Lovely post, seriously need to get to Copenhagen, you have made it sound fantastic!
