Congratulations Danielle and Chris!!!!

I’m going to need the person out there working on time travel to hurry it on up. I know there’s someone out there working on it – just like there’s surely someone working on teleportation, telepathy, maybe a dog bark-to-English translator like in the movie “Up”. But really, let’s step on the gas with that time machine, because weekends like this past one were meant to be lived more than once. It was too much fun to only last 72 hours. What was too much fun, you ask? Danielle and Chris’ wedding and other relevant festivities! On Friday my mom and I drove up to Cincinnati together – with a quick stop in Louisville for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants the Irish Rover. When we got to Cinci I immediately took off to the church for the rehearsal, and Gretchen was there with baby Leighton (who still hasn’t come into the world yet!). The church was gorgeous and smelled lovely because it was still full of Easter lilies from last weekend. After the rehearsal dinner we went to Arnolds, a sweet Cinci bar with delicious craft beers, for the rehearsal dinner. We had a really great time at Arnolds, I think partly because we weren’t rushed at all. We were up on the second floor eating, drinking and talking for about four hours! Meanwhile, Javier was driving up from Nashville late because he had to work on Friday.

On Saturday morning I went with Danielle, her mom and cousin to the salon to get our fancy hairdos for the wedding. Gurt met up with us a little later and eventually the salon was full of our wedding party. The wedding was in the early afternoon, so we were at the church dressed up by noon. The wedding ceremony was beautiful – Chris and Dani were both cryin’, which of course set off the whole wedding party. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the church – even the priest said he couldn’t keep from crying. Oh, and seeing Danielle up there in that gorgeous dress…wow. Just stunning. The ceremony closed with bagpipes leading the newlyweds back down the aisle, and then it was off in the limo for wedding party photos!

We went to a really cool open field first, then to the firehouse where Chris works as a paramedic to get some photos with the fire engine. I can’t WAIT to see how these turned out – even from my iphone you can get an idea of how cool these photos are going to be! We had a great time riding around Cinci in the limo for a couple of hours drinking champagne, and then we made it back to the reception location by 5:15. The reception was in a really cool old theater that Dani and Chris had decorated with hundreds of lights everywhere. It was pretty magical. They also hired a live band – Jake Speed and the Freddies – to play some traditional bluegrass music throughout the night. Danielle’s dad contacted me the week before the wedding to ask if I would sing the father/daughter dance as a surprise for Dani, so I was already in touch with the Freddies to figure out the song (Dixie Chicks Lullaby) and maybe a couple other cover tunes that I could sing with them. It all worked out pretty great – the father/daughter dance was really sweet and I was able to sing about half a set with the band, which was a total blast.

Aside from the wonderful musical entertainment and dancing, Dani and Chris also had a photobooth at the reception, which of course meant about 100 extra photos for all of us. Corinne and Cullen came out from California for the wedding and we made sure to get plenty of photobooth action, and when we were able to wrest the bride and groom away from the throngs of well-wishers we snagged a ton of classic group shots of all of us. There were also tons of photos with L’s up to support the CARDS! The wedding was full of Cards fans since Dani is from Louisville, and we had ipads and cell phones set up with the game running while the reception was going on. Actually, for about an hour there were a bunch of pretty miserable Cards fans, but by the end everyone was euphoric with the close 4-point VICTORY. So, for the rest of the night, even our UK buddies (David, Sarah and Corinne) were (perhaps grudgingly) willing to put up an L or two for the photos.

We stayed at the reception until…probably close to midnight, and then headed back to the hotel to crash. On Sunday morning, we woke up, checked out and went with David and Sarah to a local breakfast spot…I think called Taste of Belgium. The food there was fantastic – Javi and I split a hashbrown casserole and a banana/nutella waffle…oh my goodness. Too delicious to properly explain, so if you’re in Cinci make sure you go there and experience it yourself. It was great to hang out with David and Sarah for a little bit before hitting the road – and those two are next in line for nuptial celebrations! They are getting married Aug. 10 and Javi and I are hoping hoping hoping to make it! For now, we’ll have to relive the memories of Dani and Chris’ wedding – until that time machine comes along, of course. Claro!
