| On my day off work, I had planned on working on the yard. I wanted to clean the paths between garden beds, weed the flower beds, mow the overgrown weeds, etc…but it was raining, so any fun activity had to be an indoor activity. | En mi dia libre, tenia planeado trabajar en el patio. Quería limpiar el espacio entre las jardineras, sacar malezas, cortar el pasto en algunas áreas, etc…pero estaba lloviendo, así que cualquier actividad entretenida tenia que ser adentro. |
| Last week, uncle Warren came to visit us – finally! We always love spending time with him and he hasn’t visited since the wedding so it was about time. He is the person responsible for our little windowsill rock collection! He has an amazing collection of beautiful rocks that he displays in county fairs, in his classroom (he is a school teacher) or – lucky us – gives as gifts! | La semana pasada, el tio Warren nos vino a visitar – por fin! Siempre nos encanta pasar tiempo con el y no había podido venir a vernos desde el matrimonio, así que ya era hora. El es el responsable de nuestra pequeña colección de rocas en nuestra ventana! El tiene una colección impresionante de rocas espectaculares que presenta en ferias de condado, en su sala de clases (el es profesor de escuela) o – por suerte para nosotros – las da como regalo! |
| Over Christmas Warren and our little cousin Matt gifted us two beautiful new pieces, and when he arrived in Nashville he gave us two more gorgeous pieces. We’ve been placing all of the rocks in our windowsill in the kitchen, but that sill only has so much room…and these specimens are pretty big! So I headed to the store to gather some material for a couple of projects and got some wood to make small shelves to add to our cabinets by the kitchen window. These shelves are now the new location for our collection. | Para la navidad, Warren y nuestro primo Matt nos regalaron dos nuevas piezas preciosas. Hemos estado poniendo las rocas en el dintel de la ventana en la cocina, pero ya se nos acabo el espacio….y algunos de estos especímenes son grandes! Así que me fui a la tienda a comprar materiales para un par de proyectos que tengo y aproveche de comprar un poco de madera para hacer un par de repisas y ponerlas en el costado del mueble de cocina al lado de la ventana. Estas repisas son la nueva casa de nuestra colección. |
| Making them was easy – just a few L-brackets and a strip of wood cut into 5 pieces. Now we have a great place for the rocks, and it will be nice to see the sun hit them in the afternoons. We are so thankful for uncle Warren and his love for geology, we hope this little display makes him proud! | Hacerlas fue fácil – solo un par de soportes L y un pedazo de madera cortado en 5 piezas. Ahora tenemos un lugar genial para poner las rocas, y será genial cuando el sol les de en las tardes. Estamos muy agradecidos con el tío Warren y su amor por la geología, esperamos que este orgulloso de nuestro mostrador! |
