| Back in June we posted about our experience with NPR’s StoryCorps, which was subsequently featured on HispanicNashville.com. Shortly after we showed up on Hispanic Nashville, News Channel 5’s Que Pasa Nashville contacted us about doing a segment on the blog, featuring our trip to StoryCorps. Que Pasa Nashville is a half-hour program that features stories from Nashville’s Hispanic community. I was on the show once three years ago for a “Do I Look Illegal” photo campaign around the time that SB1070 was being pushed through in Arizona. Javi and I were thrilled to be able to go on the show to talk about our blog and StoryCorps – this time both of us together. We recorded the segment the day after we were featured on Freshly Pressed, so at the time our blog was getting a few thousand hits a day. It was exciting to get so much recognition for losrodriguezlife! | En Junio escribimos un post sobre nuestra experiencia con StoryCorps de la Radio Publica Nacional (NPR) que luego fue pubicada en HispanicNashville.com. Despues que la historia aparecio en Hispanic Nashville, el Canal 5 de Noticias y su programa Que Pasa Nashville nos contacto para hacer una entrevista sobre nuestro blog, y hablar sobre nuestra historia en StoryCorps. Que Pasa Nashville es un programa de media hora que muestra historias de la comunidad hispana en Nashville. Yo estuve en el show hace 3 anos cuando participe en la campana fotografica “Do I look Illegal?” (parezco illegal?) en el tiempo que la ley SB1070 se estaba implementando en Arizona. Javi y yo estabamos muy contentos de poder estar en el programa y hablar sobre nuestro blog y sobre StoryCorps – esta vez los dos juntos. Grabamos el segmento al dia siguiente de ser incluidos en Freshly Pressed, asi que en ese dia habiamos recibidos miles de visitas. Fue muy emocionante tener tanto reconocimiento por losrodriguezlife! |

| It’s really fun to be in the news station – it’s a gigantic room with three different sets arranged for different kinds of segments. On one end of the room is the regular newsroom stage, then to the left of that was some kind of sports arrangement and to the left of that was the setup for Que Pasa Nashville. Cristina Allen is a great host and definitely kept us on track with the conversation – I am particularly prone to going off on a tangent when I talk but she graciously kept us on topic. We talked briefly about the blog and then about StoryCorps and the story we told. At the very end they played a quick segment from our actual StoryCorps recording with photos in the foreground. The sound on the segment was kind of weird – it doesn’t sound like that on the recording but maybe when we cut it to give them a small portion we accidentally added some kind of crazy reverb on my voice. | Es muy entretenido estar en la estacion de noticias – es una sala gigante con 3 sets arreglados para diferentes segmentos. En un lado tienen el set de noticias, en una punta un arreglo para los deportes y mas hacia la izquierda esta el set para Que Pasa Nashville. Christina Allen es la anfitriona y nos ayudo mucho a mantener la conversacion en linea – yo soy muy buena para irme por las ramas cuando hablo, pero ella con mucha gracia nos ayudo a quedarnos en el tema. Hablamos un poco sobre el blog y sobre la historia que contamos en StoryCorps. Al final pusieron una parte de nuestra grabacion con fotos en el fondo. El sonido es un poco extrano – no suena asi en la grabacion pero como lo editamos nosotros tal vez hicimos algo que cambio el sonido. |
