| One of our little decorating projects that we did along with the painting before Javier’s family arrived was putting up photos on the walls. If you can remember how our living room was before the transformation (what a nightmare…), we had zero decorations on the walls. After we painted everything looked much better, but the walls were still bare. This was pretty weird for me because for the last 6 years all of my previous living included photos everywhere. | Uno de nuestros pequenos proyectos decorativos que hicimos antes de que la familia de Javier llegara fue decorar nuestras paredes. Si te puedes acordar como nuestro living era antes de la transformacion (que pesadilla…), teniamos cero decoraciones en los muros. Despues de pintar todo se veia mucho mejor, pero las paredes aun estaban peladas. Eso era muy raro para mi porque en los ultimos 6 anos en todos los otros lugares que vivia estaba completamente rodeada por mis fotos favoritas. |
| At the beginning of my junior year in college I moved into a house off campus with three of my girlfriends Nikita, Missy and Mallory. It was the first opportunity I had to decorate my own space since moving out of my parents’ house and I went pretty crazy making sure my wall space was covered with photos. My aunt Dana has a great decorating style that I absolutely love using bright colors and refinished, distressed furniture, so I took a leaf out of her book and bought about 75 wood frames from Goodwills all over the city to refinish. I sanded them all down and repainted them with the colors I used to decorate (teal, red and yellow). I did the same with two dressers. After the paint was dry I went back and sanded them down to give them the distressed look. | A principios de mi tercer ano en la universidad, me mude a una casa fuera del campus con tres de mis mejores amigas Nikita, Missy y Mallory. Fue la primera oportunidad que tuve para decorar mi propia pieza desde que me mude de la casa de mis papas, y me volvi un poco loca asegurandome que todas mis murallas estuvieran tapadas con fotos. Mi tia Dana tiene un my buen estilo de decoracion que a mi me encanta, ella usa colores vivos, y pintura desgastada, asi que tome parte de su estilo y compre 75 marcos de madera en distintas tiendas Goodwill y los pinte a mi gusto. Los gaste usando lija y use los colores que queria para decorar (azulino, rojo, y amarillo). Hice lo mismo con las comodas. Despues que la pintura seco, los lije un poco mas para darle ese toque de antiguedad. |
| I used these same frames in another house I lived in with the same roommates and then in the apartment Javier and I lived in for almost 3 years. I knew Javi wasn’t thrilled about the colors – he always referred to them as my college dorm room decorations – so when we moved to the house we decided we would refinish the frames for the house. We couldn’t do anything until we knew what colors we were going to eventually paint the living room, so the frames sat up in the attic from April til December when we finally got them down. | Use esos mismos marcos en otra casa en la que vivi con las mismas companeras y despues en el departamento donde Javier y yo vivimos por casi 3 anos. Sabia que a Javier no le gustaban mucho los colores – siempre se refirio a ellos como decoracion de departamento universitario – asi que cuando nos mudamos a nuestra casa decidimos que pitariamos los marcos para redecorar la casa. No podiamos hacer nada hasta tener los colores finales de las murallas, asi que dejamos los marcos en el atico desde Abril hasta Diciembre cuando por fin los bajamos. |
| We decided to repaint them an off-white color and forgo the distressed look. Paula helped us and we spent the day sanding them down, cleaning the glass and giving them all a few coats of paint. It took us forever but we finally narrowed my thousands and thousands of photos (not exaggerating) down to a few choice prints for the frames and printed them out. We cleared out the living room and placed them all down on the ground in the pattern we wanted to hang them on the wall. When the frames were painted and dry, we hung them up one at a time until we finally had wall decor!! It looks awesome – I’m so much happier with our living room!! Now we just need curtains… | Decidimos pintarlos blanco invierno y nos olvidamos de hacerlos ver antiguos. Paula nos ayudo y pasamos el dia lijandolos, limpiando los vidrios, y dandoles varias manos de pintura. Nos tomo mucho tiempo pero finalmente pudimos elegir las fotos que queriamos de las miles que tengo (sin exagerar) y las asignamos a los marcos que estaban listos para ser colgados. Una vez que imprimimos las fotos, abrimos espacio en el suelo del living y organizamos los marcos de la manera que queriamos que se vieran en la pared. Cuando todo estaba organizado y listo, los colgamos uno a la vez, hasta que la decoracion estaba lista!! Se ve genial – soy mucho mas feliz ahora con este living!! Ahora solo nos faltan cortinas… |

Ustedes tienen un excelente gusto decorativo, realmente la mezcla de los colores entre las paredes y la mezcla de las paredes con los marcos fue perfecta!! Admiro su creatuvidad y buen gusto …
