A couple of my friends mentioned that Thanksgiving is their favorite time of the year because it kicks off the holiday season, and I agree wholeheartedly. Thanksgiving is great because you get to see your family, take off of work / school for a few days, and you know there is still a month to enjoy the “holiday season” followed by celebrations of the new year. Every year since we moved to Nashville we’ve gone up to Louisville to spend Thanksgiving at my aunt Marian and uncle Stephen’s house. Some years its just us with Ian and Andrea, but every once in a while my dad’s other siblings join us and this year Jane, Bruce, Melissa and Andre were all there for the Thanksgiving fun. Ian and Andrea ate Thanksgiving dinner at her family’s house, but they drove down to Louisville the day after Thanksgiving for Ian’s 10 year high school reunion (ah!) so we got to see almost the whole family, which was great!

Un par de amigos mios dijieron que el dia de accion de gracias era su tiempo favorito del ano porque es el inicio de la temporada de Navidad, y yo concuerdo rotundamente. Accion de gracias es genial porque vez a toda la familia, tienes tiempo libre sin trabajo o escuela por unos dias, y sabes que todavia tienes un mes para disfrutar de la temporada de navidad y que luego viene el ano nuevo. Todos los anos, desde que nos mudamos a Nashville, vamos a Louisville a pasar accion de gracias en casa de mis tios Marian y Stephen. Algunas veces somos solo unos cuantos entre nosotros, mis papas y mi hermano, pero de vez en cuando mis otros tios se unen a la celebracion y este ano mi abuela,  Jane, Bruce, Melissa, y Andre estuvieron con nosotros para pasarlo bien.  Ian y Andrea pasaron la cena de accion de gracias con su familiy en Chicago, y despues manejaron a Louisville al otro dia para asistir a la reunion de 10 anos del liceo de Ian, asi que pudimos ver a casi toda la familia, lo que fue genial!

Thanksgiving dinner (well, we ate Thanksgiving lunch so we could eat leftovers for dinner) was fabulous as usual. I’m always so impressed with the table setting – the china, real silverware, crystal glasses, centerpiece, beautiful serving bowls – my aunt really sets a fine table.

Cena de accion de gracias (bueno, nosotros comimos almuerzo de accion de gracias asi podiamos comer las sobras a la cena) estuvo fantastico como siempre. Siempre quedo muy impresionada con la mesa – la porcelana, los cubiertos, el cristal, las decoraciones – mi tia sabe como poner la mesa con mucho estilo.

On Thursday night we all sat around and played “Sounds Like a Plan” – a new game Ian gave my dad for his birthday. It’s really similar to Apples to Apples but adds some extra twists (and we added a few more twists as we went on) – and it was an absolute riot. We laughed the whole night playing it – and of course I got a few photos.

El Jueves en la noche nos sentamos a jugar “Suena como un plan” – un juego que Ian le regalo a mi papa para su cumpleanos. Es muy parecido a Apples to Apples pero agrega un par de cosas extra (y nosotros agregamos otras reglas) – y fue absolutamente loco!. Nos reimos toda la noche jugando – y por supuesto saque fotos.

On Friday we all went into Shelbyville’s town center and went antique shopping – which is fun to do anyway, but it’s really fun with my aunts because they are pros at finding the best antiques. The antique gallery that we visited had the most incredible items…I picked out my dream desk (with a $13,000 price tag!?!) and then found one that was a little more reasonable (only $1,000) that Javi promised he’d make for me. I didn’t take a photo of the original dream desk – no picture would have done it justice. It had a leather top, heavy wood all around, TONS of space, just breathtaking. Someday. Anyway, we took a million photos of the other little desk because Javi promised me he’s going to build it for me!!! So I’ve got to hold him to it because it’s going to be awesome.

El Viernes todos fuimos a Shelbyville a ver antiguedades – lo que es muy entretenido, pero es mas entretenido con mis tias porque son profesionales en encontrar las mejores altiguedades. La galeria que visitamos tenia las antiguedades mas increbiles …… encontre el escritorio de mis suenos (a solo $13 mil dolares?!?!) y despues encontre uno un poco mas razonable (solo mil) que Javi prometio construira para mi. No saque fotos del escritorio de mis suenos – ninguna foto podria mostrar la totalidad del escritorio. Tenia una cubierta de cuero, entero de madera, un MONTON de espacio….algun dia. Pero bueno, sacamos un millon de fotos del otro escritorio porque Javi quiere construir uno para mi!! Asi que le cobrare la palabra porque va a ser genial!

On Friday evening we met up with Ian and Andrea in Louisville for dinner at the Irish Rover. Javi and I got these massive “cottage pies” that are pretty similar to shepherd’s pie – not quite as good as the Family Wash but they were still delicious! Afterward mom and dad left to go to the UofL game with Ian and Andrea and we went out with Danielle (remember the houseboat?) and her boyfriend Chris for a beer before going home. We played another rousing round of Sounds like a Plan with the family after the UofL game – a great way to cap off the night.

El viernes en la tarde nos juntamos con Ian y Andrea an Louisville para cenar en el Irish Rover. Javi y yo pedimos un plato gigante llamado Cottage Pie que es muy similar a un Shepherd’s Pie – no tan delicioso como los de Family Wash pero delicioso igual! Despues de la cena mis papas junto con Ian y Andrea fueron al juego de basquetbol de la Universidad de Louisville y nosotros nos juntamos con Danielle y su pololo Chris (se acuerdan de la casa bote?) para tomarnos unas cervezas antes de irnos a casa, Cuando todos regresamos a casa, jugamos otra ronda de “Suena como un plan” para cerrar la noche.

Yesterday we decided to come home a day early – it was definitely time to get back to the puppies and back to my office so I can get some work out of the way before going back to campus on Tuesday. I’m starting to feel the panic attacks…I can’t sleep for thinking about everything I have to do between now and Dec. 12. It’s a pretty miserable feeling really…not my favorite way to end a holiday. The great thing about coming back was that my aunt Jane and uncle Bruce got to see our home! They stayed at my parents’ house for a night on their way back to Mobile so we got a chance to show them around our neighborhood a bit. It’s thanks to them that we have furniture in this house – about a week after we moved in we drove down to Mobile and filled up a 22-ft Penske truck full of my great-grandmother’s furniture that they kept in storage for several years. It was really great to get the chance to show them how all of the furniture made our house into a home!

Ayer decidimos volver a casa un dia antes – era tiempo de volver a los perros y a mi oficina para poder terminr algunas tareas antes del martes cuando retomo clases. Estoy empezando a tener ataques de panico….no puedo dormir porque estoy siempre pensando en todo lo que tengo que hacer antes del 12 de Diciembre. Es miserable…no es mi forma favorita de pasar las fiestas. Lo genial fue que mis tios Jane y Bruce pudieron venir a visitar nuestra casa en Nashville! Ellos se quedaron en casa de mis papas en su camino de vuelta a casa en Alabama, asi que pudimos mostrarle nuestro barrio un poquito. Es gracias a ellos que tenemos muebles en esta casa – una semana despues que nos mudamos, manejamos a Mobile y llenamos un camion con muebles de mi bis abuela que ellos habian mantenido guardados por varios anos. Fue la mejor oportunidad para mostrarles como hemos usado los muebles en nuestra casa!

So that’s that – our Thanksgiving adventure is over. Now it really is time to get back to work – only 15 more days til I can relax a little!

Asi que eso es todo – nuestra aventura de dia de accion de gracias ha terminado. Ahora es tiempo de volver al trabajo – solo 15 dias mas para poder relajarme un poquito mas!
