Chupete graduated!! We are so proud of him! especially because this class was a huge challenge to his curious nature. For his beginner class he was the only dog enrolled, which was a huge help for him (and us) because it let our trainer focus on him and his puppy issues (he really needed attention, he was a little bit of a trouble puppy…hahaha). By the way, if you are thinking about enrolling your dog in any class (in Nashville) we recommend that you to sign up with our trainer. Her name is Kip Kirby and she trains at the PetSmart in Charlotte Ave. in West Nashville Shopping Center (next to Costco). She is incredible, very patient, loves dogs, and loves to teach you to teach your dogs. Oh, and your dogs will love her! (Chupete does!)
This time around, Chupete had a classmate named Scout and a family of 5 coming to work with her. Chupete had to learn to not pay attention to them and focus on us and our instructions (a huge deal for him). Also, every new command involved distractions like…the pink elephant (his kryptonite when it comes to completing any exercise correctly), squeaky toys, rawhide (irresistible) and car keys! We showed in a recent post that we have been working with him and Choripan so he could graduate with honors…and the work paid off! He was great in his final evaluation and even Choripan learned some commands! So here are some pictures of our highly educated dog and a couple of videos of his performance during his final evaluation.
Before finishing this post we would like to give a little advice to those dog owners that think their dogs will never learn, or for those that think it would be nice to have a good dog. Teach your dog with patience, enroll in classes and figure out what motivates your dog. Your dog will do anything for you if you provide the right reward (treats, belly rubs, frisbee, tennis balls, chicken, toys, cheese, peanut butter….you need to find what represents the ultimate reward for him/her) Obedience training is the best thing we could have done for Chupete, hands down! Better than any toy, food, treat, walking device, collar, etc. By no means is he a perfect dog; he still jumps on people, still misbehaves or disobeys, but I could not imagine how he would be right now if we didn’t trained him…god save us, our house, and our wallets! Now it’s a matter of staying consistent and teaching him how to become an example for his little brother and other fellow canines!

Wow, the trainer’s left arm shows what she sacrifices to do this well! I admire you guys for going to the trouble to give Chupete a much better life than he’d have had running wild. The graduation cap is adorable.
Congrats Chupete! Your girlfriend Roxie graduates from the beginner class next week 🙂 Where would we be without obedience training??? Yikes! For anyone who lives a bit further from town, I would highly recommend Tiffany at the Petsmart Thompson Lane store – she’s awesome!
Congrats Chupete!! You are doing a fantastic job of training both dogs. It makes such a difference when they visit, or when we come over. They are really fun to be with, and behave when they need to.
I love the person in the background of the 2nd video saying “Speak with authority!” Haha. Big congrats to Chupete, the handsomest graduate I know!
Yeah haha that was the dad of the family of the other dog talking to his daughter while she was handling the exercise.

Disfruten a Chupete y Choripan.
