My inaugural post…and the Rodriguez/McClure Sunday

Between my facebook profile, facebook photography page, photography website, photography blog and twitter and linked in accounts, I think it’s safe to say that I’m fairly connected, or shackled to, many frontiers of the interweb. So last week when Javi decided to start a family blog on the same day that I got a google+ invite from Bruce Reyes-Chow, I took it as yet another opportunity to allow the world to familiarize itself with the inner workings of what’s going on in our lives and dove right in to figuring out the wonderful world of widgets, wordpress and circles. Up to now, I’ve been adding all the fun little widgets on that sidebar over to your right but this is my first opportunity to introduce myself on our little family blog. So I’ll get right down to it.

My mom’s new years resolution for 2011 was to learn to cook, or get back into cooking, by cooking a family meal for me, Javi, dad and gma every Sunday evening. She’s one of the only people I know who has managed to keep up with a new years resolution and is still going strong today, as I type here on the kitchen table salivating over the smell of roasted chicken and pasta salad that’s permeating the room. (TMI?)

So far, mom has made us so faaaan-freakin-tastic meals. Today is no exception…here are a few photos of our future feast and feasts of old:

Sundays are also a day for the whole family to relax (except for mom who won’t let anyone else REALLY dive in to help her – basting the chicken maybe, stirring a bowl of sauce is okay but she’s the one in charge of the heavy duty cooking!) and do what we’ve been hoping to do all week. Our weeks all look different of course – Javi is at work from 9-6 at CMT, Mom is working her tail off with Alive Hospice (she’s a chaplain), Gma is always meeting people at church for various groups, volunteering, writing letters, writing her autobiography (yeah she’s already written two books and she’s gmail savvy), dad…well dad is riding the downhill slope of “my book comes out this fall so I get to take a break” but he’s still doing fair bit of recording and reading and I’m usually at home with the dogs either working on thesis prep or taking care of various graduate assistant duties. Saturdays are days to take care of errands (like going to the farmers market to buy local food!!!) or to shoot weddings, but Sundays…ah. Sundays are days to go to 2nd Pres, listen to the amazing music there and see good friends, have lunch with the fam at panera, edit photos (fun!!) or lounge by the pool all day, maybe catch up on some fun reading, smell the delicious smells of mom’s impending meal, take a walk with the doggos…dad hasn’t ventured out of his studio all day…etc. We love Sundays in the Rodriguez / McClure household.

What about you? what are your Sundays like?
