| This fall I was inspired by a pair of adorable knitted mice and their maker Robin Nikkel to pick up my abandoned knitting needles and try to make something besides scarves using the most basic stitches. | I had a little extra bulky yarn after repairing a few holes Kumita so kindly added to a shawl I bought in Chile, so I used the rest of it to make a small hat with ears. I gave the hat to my friend Gretchen’s daughter Leighton who LOVES animals, and when I posted a photo of the hat on instagram, Josh (mandolin for HH) commented on the photo that it could double as a Yoda hat. Knowing that the Star Wars movie was fast approaching, I decided to make Josh (who is an avid Star Wars fanatic) a Yoda hat for Christmas. | Tenia un poco de lana extra despues de reparar unos puntos en una frazada que trajimos de Chile que Kumita mordio, asi que la use para hacer un gorro con orejas. Le regale el gorro a Leighton, la hija de mi amiga Gretchen, y cuando puse una foto en instagram, Josho (mandolin en HH) comento que el gorro podia ser tambien un gorro de Yoda. Sabiendo que la nueva Star Wars esta por salir, decidi hacer uno gorro de Yoda para Josh (es fanatico de Star Wars) como regalo de Navidad. |
| I found the pattern on pinterest and it takes about an evening to complete the whole thing. The stitching is all very simple – the worst part is sewing up the seams on the hat and the ears. I’m working on knitting in the round so I can skip the seam sewing process, but I need to build up my collection of circular needles. I skipped the part in the pattern that includes the “B” color of yarn since Yoda only required one color, and instead of sewing the ears on the top of the hat I put them on the sides so they poke out like Yoda’s. | Encontre las instrucciones en pinterest y me tomo una tarde para completar todo. Los puntos son simples – la peor parte es coser los bordes en el gorro y las orejas. Estoy trabajando en mejorar mi tejido en circulo para no tener que coser nada, pero necesito incrementar mi coleccion de palillos ciculares. Me salte la parte de la instrucciones que incluye un color “B” de lana, como Yoda solo necesita un color, y en vez de coser las orejas en el tope las puse a los lados para que apuntaran hacia afuera como las de Yoda. |
