| Some months are better than others for blogging. We had an entire week snowed in and even with all that time at home on my hands I still didn’t write anything out. I would just start with the immediate goings-on in our lives but I have so many beautiful photos worth sharing from the past couple of months that I figured I’d do a quick two-post recap. I feel like I’m always doing a recap! | Algunos meses son mejores que otros para el blog. Tuvimos una semana entera encerrados por la nieve y a pesar del tiempo que teniamos en nustras manos, no escribimos nada. Yo escribiria sobre lo que esta pasando ahora pero tengo muchas fotos bonitas que me gustaria compartir que creo que es mejor hacer un recuento. Siento que siempre estoy haciendo recuentos!

snow day activities
| In the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve Javier and I went with mom and dad down to Perdido, Alabama to stay at our friends’ vacation house in the gulf. Ian, Andrea and Gia flew down there to meet us and we had an entire week of uninterrupted family time, all thanks to my mom’s birthday wish. She wanted to celebrate her 60th with her kiddos (and grandkiddo), which of course was a welcome celebration for all of us. Gia waddled in on the first night we were all together wearing a “I’m a big sister” t-shirt and it took us about 15 minutes to notice that her mom and dad were subtly trying to tell us GIA IS A BIG SISTER. You see, Gia has 3 older girl cousins so I just figured it was a hand-me-down when I first saw it. “Oh, you’re a “big sister,” isn’t that cute! Oh..wait, shit, are you…Ian? Andrea? IS GIA GOING TO BE A BIG SISTER??” followed by a big happy celebration during which we all drank Chilean wine…except poor momma Andrea. It’s all public now – they’re having a BOY! Ah! (<– this is more recent news) | En la semana entre navidad y ano nuevo, Javier y yo fuimos junto a mis papas a Perdido, Alabama a quedarnos en la casa de vacaciones de un amigo en el golfo. Ian, Andrea, y Gia volaron desde Chicago y nos encontramos alla para disfrutar de una semana de tiempo familiar sin interrupciones, todo gracias al deseo de cumpleanos de mama. Ella queria celebrar sus 60 anos con su hijos y nieta, lo que fue muy bien recibido por nosotros. Gia aparecio la primera noche con una polera que decia “soy la hermana mayor” y nos tomo como 15 minutos notar que sus papas estaban tratando de decirnos que GIA ES LA HERMANA MAYOR. Lo que paso es que Gia tiene 3 primas mayores y pensamos que era una polera que habia heredado, asi que cuando la vimos fue como “ah, eres hermana mayor, que tierna!” pero al poco rato fue como ESPERA….GIA VA A SER HERMANA MAYOR!!!!!? asi que celebramos la noticia con vino chileno, Andrea no pudo eso si. Es todo publico ahora, Gia tendra un hermanito! aaaah!! |
| That whole week was a blur of relaxation, punctuated by short trips around the neighborhood in the golf cart and nightly binges of “True Detective” (this is a weird one to watch with the family, but we all enjoyed it anyway). We drained 5 bottles of Chilean wine that Javi and I brought from our trip, we played several games of Scrabble and Mexican Train, and we all spent our fair share of time lounging on the wrap-around screened in porch or on the dock looking out on the water. It was PERFECT – and now that I’m finally writing about it I can’t believe we don’t take this trip at least once a month. What a dream! | La semana entera fue de relajo, con viajes por el vecindario en el carrito de golf y noches de television viendo True Detective (es un poco raro ver ese programa en familia pero a todos nos gusto). Bebimos como 5 botellas de vino Chileno que trajimos de nuestro viaje, jugamos juegos de masa, y pasamos un buen tiempo sentados en el porch del frente mirando la bahia. Estuvo PERFECTO – y ahora que por fin estoy escribiendo sobre esto no puedo creer que no hacemos viajes asi mas seguidos! Es un sueno! |
| Of course, Gia was the #1 focus for the four of us Nashvillians while we were all together. Javi and I bought her a little collapsable tent when we were in Chile and she seemed to like it; especially when Javier put a blanket over the entrance, which turned it into a little cave for her. She really loves Javi – I think it’s the beard. 🙂 She’s got such a fun personality now, and she’s getting more talkative (and vocal in general) so…basically when she’s in the room, everyone knows it. I can’t wait to meet her brother! | Claro que Gia era el foco de atencion #1 para los 4 adultos de Nashville. Javi y yo le compramos una carpa colapsable en Chile que al parecer le gusto, especialmente cuando Javi le puso una frazada encima y la convirtio en una cueva. Ella quiere mucho a Javi – creo que es la barba 🙂 Ella tiene una personalidad muy divertida, y ahora habla mas (o hace mas ruidos) asi que basicamente cuando esta en un lugar, todos saben. No puedo esperar a conocer a su hermano! |
| We had to leave before everyone else to drive to Knoxville for NYE. Humming House opened for The Black Lillies at the Tennessee Theatre for their big NYE celebration, so Javier and I took off from the gulf at around 5AM to make it to Knoxville for sound check. That night was a perfect wrap up to the entire week – the Tennessee Theatre was by far the most beautiful venue I’ve ever performed in and the crowd was spectacular. The Black Lillies put on a hell of a show and brought us out for “Holiday Road” at the end – it was a really special night for us. After the confetti cannons went off at midnight we all had our own celebration in the green room with some friends who drove from Nashville to the show. It was a wonderful way to kick of 2015! | Tuvimos que irnos antes que el resto para manejar rumbo a Knoxville para el ano nuevo. Humming House abrio el show de The Black Lillies en la celebracion de ano nuevo en el Tennessee Theater. Asi que Javier y yo salimos a las 5 de manana rumbo a Knoxville para llegar a tiempo a la prueba de sonido. La noche fue un perfecto punto final para la semana – el Tennessee Theater es el lugar mas lindo donde he cantado y la gente estuvo espectacular. The Black Lillies dieron un show buenisimos y nos invitaron de vuelta al escenario al final para cantar “Holiday Road” – fue una noche especial. Los canones con papelillos explotaron a la media noche y todos celebramos en el backstage con amigos que vinieron desde Nashville. Fue la manera perfecta de empezar el 2015! |
