| We’ve been busy around here! Two weekends ago was everything a weekend-at-home should be. On Friday Javi and I spent the evening eating pizza and playing scrabble with grandma at home. Javi won that round. On Saturday we started off with Sunday Morning Pancake Mix chocolate chip pancakes (as every Saturday should start). Javi studied, I lounged, then we went out to Brentwood to meet Melodie and Bobby and friends to celebrate Mel’s birthday at the skating rink. Unfortunately the rink was closed between 5:30 and 6:30 and that was about all the time we had, so we all went out for a drink instead. After a beer and a Five Guys burger we headed home and started a bonfire out back. We planned to have friends over but plans fell through, so we brought out the scrabble board and played another game of scrabble after the sun went down. I won that round. Once it was too cold to stay outside we retreated to the living room and watched Life of Pi – and thus ended the perfect Saturday. | Hemos estado ocupados! el fin de semana pasado fue todo lo que esperaba de un fin de semana en casa. El viernes Javi y yo pasamos la tarde comiendo pizza y jugando scrabble con mi abuela en casa. Javi gano esa ronda. El sabado empezamos con panqueques de chocolate (como todos los sabados). Javi estudio, yo me relaje, y luego fuimos a Brentwood para juntarnos con Melodie y Bobby para celebrar el cumpleanos de Mel en el centro de patinaje. Mala suerte para nosotros el lugar cerraba de 5:30 a 6:30 y ese era el tiempo que teniamos, asi que nos fuimos a tomar un trago. Despues de tomarnos una cerveza y comer Five Guys nos fuimos a casa e hicimos una fogata y jugamos otra ronda de Scrabble. Yo gane esa ronda. Una vez que se puso frio afuera, volvimos a la casa y vimos la pelicula La Vida de Pi – y asi terminamos un Sabado perfecto. |
| On Sunday we gardened. We took out the dying mums (which our neighbors since collected from the ditch by the street) and replaced them with pansies in the barrels. We put bulbs around the trees in the front and Javier removed most of the dying summer plants in the garden and replaced them with lettuce / spinach transplants. Pretty soon we will cut back and shape the rose bushes and cut the butterfly bushes down to the stems. Javi dug up the calla lily bulbs and stored them in the basement til spring. We also planted 215 bulbs at my parents’ house as a birthday gift for mom! 50 tulips, 30 or so hyacinths and several varieties of daffodils are all ready for spring 2015. Now back to enjoying fall 2014…where did this year go? | El Doming hicimos algo de jardineria. Sacamos las plantas que teniamos en los barriles y las reemplazamos por orejas de oso. Plantamos bulbos alrededor de los arboles y Javier saco las plantas muertas de la huerta y planto lechuga y espinaca. Pronto podaremos las rosas y las platas de mariposas. Javi tambien desenterro los bulbos de la cala liles y las guardo en el subterraneo. Tambien plantamos 215 bulbos en la casa de mis papas como regalo de cumpleanos para mi mama! 50 tulipanes, 30 jacintos, y muchas variedades de otra flores que saldran en la primavera del 2015. Ahora a disfrutar del otono….donde se fue este 2014? |
