NYC, DC…and hockey

For the last three weeks I’ve been on the road with Humming House for the final leg of our Fall Forward Tour. We started off our time in NYC, staying one night with a friend in his apartment in Manhattan and then relocating to another friend’s loft in Brooklyn. The loft in Brooklyn had an epic, jaw-dropping view of the Manhattan skyline and we arrived just as the sun was starting to set. You know me…plenty of photos from that view below. Our time in NYC was short – in the week that followed we went to Maine, Maryland, DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, etc. It’s been a crazy trip!

I hadn’t been to DC since I visited Corinne when she lived there – maybe in 09? Bobby grew up in DC and his family still lives there along with a good number of high school friends. We stayed there for four nights, which was a really refreshing change from the usual packing up and moving out every single morning. Bobby’s family home (dubbed the Chase hotel over the weekend) was great, complete with coffee brewing basically all the time, endless games of tetris on super nintendo and some of the best food we’ve ever had on the road. All of Bobby’s friends and family showed up for our show in DC and I had a couple of good friends in the crowd too, including my friend Ashley and her boyfriend Dylan, who took photos of the show for us (below).

The day after the show we didn’t have any obligations, and a day off meant many games of tetris and a hockey game in the evening. Bobby’s family has season tickets to the Capitals and Josh, Justin, Ben and I bought some great seats all the way up on the 4th level. Bobby decked us all out in Caps gear – enjoy the photo below because you’ll probably never see HH dressed up like that again – and we were ready to join the throngs of Caps fans in downtown DC. We had a really fantastic view from above and we were sitting with plenty of fun, rowdy fans, but about 10 minutes into the game I got a text from Ashley who was also at the game and happened to have an extra ticket in the first level, so I went to join her and some of her coworkers 5 rows back from the ice. It was so much fun to be down that close to the action! I was able to get a couple of slo-mo videos on my phone and a few good photos before going back upstairs to rejoin the boys and finish out the Caps win with a bottomless bucket of popcorn. It was a perfect way to finish out a fun weekend in DC, especially for Bobby who is a giant Caps fanatic. Hopefully we’ll be back in DC with the band soon!
