| We have a ton of hard work to accomplish in our landscape plan to prepare for the arrival of the plants. We ordered most of our plants online and they will ship when our zone (TN) is ready for planting. Since we moved into the house, weeds and Bermuda grass have taken over the old flower beds, so the next step after transplanting and removing the bushes was to install edging to mark the beds and stop the grass from moving in. | Tenemos mucho trabajo duro que completar para el plan del jardín antes que la plantas comiencen a llegar. Ordenamos las plantas online y comienzan a llegar cuando nuestra zona llega a la fecha adecuada para transplantar. | We decided to use metallic edging, which was a little more expensive than plastic but we figured it will last longer, will be easier to install, and will look better than plastic. Each piece is about 8 feet long and comes with stakes. The pieces interlock at each end keeping a fluid line along the entire garden. | Decidimos usar una orilla metálica, la cual era un poco mas cara que la de plástico pero pensamos que va a durar mas, será mas fácil de instalar, y se vera mejor que el plástico. Cada pieza es de 8 pies de largo y viene con estacas. Las piezas se interconectan en cada punta lo cual mantiene una linea fluida por todo el jardín. |

| The tools we use for this project were: edger, hammer and pliers. To install the edging I had to dig a trench for the entire perimeter, which was relatively easy to do using the edger (this hand tool is now one of my favorites). There are a bunch of videos on YouTube about how to install metallic edging, so if you are thinking about tackling this project we recommend checking them out. Installing the metallic strips was easy to do after digging the trench – all that was left was to place the edging in the trench and bury the stakes using a hammer. | Las herramientas que usamos para este proyecto fueron: orillador, martillo, y alicate. Para instalar la orilla tuve que escarbar una zanja en todo el perímetro, los que fue fácil de hacer con el orillado (esta herramienta es ahora una de mis favoritas). Hay un montón de vídeos en YouTube sobre como instalar orillas metálicas, asi que si están pensando en hacer algo como esto revisen los videos. Instalar las franjas metálicas fue fácil después de hacer la zanja – todo lo que quedaba para hacer fue alinear las orillas en la zanjas y enterrar las estacas con el martillo. |
| The result is fantastic – even without cleaning the beds the yard look so much better. The edging keeps everything organized and now we are ready to tackle the next step in our plan…cleaning the beds! Where did you get the edging for this project? What’s it called?
Hi Peter,
We got it at Lowe’s. I can’t remember the exact name of the product, but we found it in the gardening center area. It is available in green and brown. Each piece is 8 ft long.
