Los Rodriguez Mansion: Ready for Christmas!

So now that we’ve seen the Nutcracker and watched a few Christmas movies, Javi and I are feeling properly Christmasy and into the season. We decorated the house the week after Thanksgiving this year, but I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly clean the house yet to take photos. Most of our decorations are much the same as last year – lights on the porch, reusing the sparkly candles that my mom and I made for my wedding, putting up stockings on the wall since we don’t have a fireplace, the tree, etc. This year, I added some sparkly pinecones that are also recycled from the wedding – mom and I decorated these using spray glue and glitter just like the candles. Last year I didn’t have any ideas for them so I didn’t use them, but this year I strung up a few out on the porch and I hung five of them up from our dining room light fixture. We also decorated our bathroom this year with a snowman theme to go with the little snowman soap dispenser I bought last year. Finally, by far the prettiest decorations we added (actually a year-round fixture but really nice during the holidays) were the two intricate crocheted doilies Javier’s mom made for us. She started them last year when she was here visiting us and sent them to us finished about a month ago. The one on the coffee table is on top of a pretty little table runner that Javier’s grandma made for us. Did I marry into a talented family or what?

Ahora que ya vimos cascanueces y unas cuantas películas de navidad, Javi y yo nos sentimos de lleno en el espíritu navideño. Decoramos la casa una semana después del día de acción de gracias este ano, pero no había tenido la oportunidad de hacer aseo profundo para poder sacar fotos. La mayoría de las decoraciones son las mismas del año pasado – luces en el porch del frente, volvimos a usar las velas con brillantina que mi mama y yo hicimos para mi matrimonio, pusimos las botas en la muralla porque no tenemos chimenea, el árbol, etc. Este año, agregue una pinas de pino con brillantina que también recicle del matrimonio – mama y yo las decoramos usando pegamento en spray y brillantina. El año pasado no sabía que hacer con ellos así que no los use, pero este ano las puse en una línea de pescar y puse algunos en el porch y algunos en nuestro candelabro en el comedor. También decoramos el baño con un tema de mono de nieve que va perfecto con el dispensador de jabón de mono de nieve que teníamos del año pasado. Finalmente, lejos la decoración más linda que agregamos (que en realidad son decoraciones para todo el ano pero perfectas para las fiestas) fueron 2 tejidos muy intricados hechos a crochet por la mama de Javier. Los comenzó a hacer el año pasado cuando estaban aca de visita y nos mandó el producto terminado más o menos hace un mes. El que está en la mesa de café esta sobre un mantel navideno que la abuela de Javier hizo. Me case en una familia talentosa o qué?
