Halloween at Los Rodriguez mansion

Well, Halloween was scary for us for a few reasons. First, on Tuesday night before Halloween Javier and I realized that the reason Chupete had been acting weird all day was not, in fact, because he was scared of the halloween decorations we put up (though it is very true that he’s scared of them). Actually, we finally caught sight of the dewclaw that was hanging by a tiny piece of skin off of his right front paw and the poor guy had been pacing around the house all day because of it. He never limped or whined, so we didn’t even think to check out his paws til around 9:00 at night. The scary part wasn’t the claw so much as the cost to fix it – we didn’t want to wait til morning to take him to the vet because he seemed pretty miserable, so I took him at night to the emergency clinic to get him fixed up. Ugh that place is expensive…but they gave him an anesthetic, tore the claw out (poor fella) and gave us some antibiotics and painkillers to take home. Poor, poor pupster! Pobre, pobre cachorro!
So after all the drama from Tuesday night we woke up Wednesday morning and I completely forgot that it was halloween! Javi remembered, though, and took his pirate costume to work. Smart thinking. The other scary realization on Halloween was that a week from that day we’d be reading headlines about the election results (or lack thereof)…ahhh the terror!
On Wednesday evening my parents came over and we had pizza for dinner, then bundled up and sat out on the porch for about an hour waiting for the kiddos. We only had FIVE trick-or-treaters this year – one group of three girls and a group of two tiny boys whose candy bags were bigger than they were. That was it!! So we went back inside and spent the rest of the evening in the heated house watching halloween movies. Not a bad way to spend Halloween, but I wish we had more trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood! We just can’t compete with the houses on Eastland and Riverside!
