A couple of nights ago we were all sitting down at the table (and when I say “we” I mean Leslie, her parents, her grandma and me) after a delicious meal – we made pesto again – wondering what we could do to extend the joy of our dinner. At that point, Annie came up with the brilliant idea of ice cream. As her mind was thinking about this delicious frozen treat (her mouth was watering and her sight was lost in the horizon), she remembered Bobbie’s Dairy Dip! We had heard rave reviews about this blast-from-the-past ice cream stop and although it was only a couple of miles from our old apartment, we had never been. Inconceivable! Inaceptable! |
We all jumped from our chairs, smiled big, yelled three cheers for Annie’s brilliance and rushed off to Bobbie’s. We barely made it in time before Bobbie’s closed and ordered five fabulous treats. Annie and John both ordered sundaes – Annie’s with caramel and John’s with hot fudge. Leslie, Joan and I all ordered the chocolate dipped cones – they have so much good stuff!! I didn’t know what to order, everything looked so delicious…so when it was my time to order I said to the person in the counter: “I want whatever will make me come back to get another one”. The guy nailed it! We ALL want to come back. We just need to wait for the weather to cooperate and stop raining. |
Going to Bobbie’s is like going back in time, to a place where the high school kids in the 50s would hang out during the summer, or a perfect spot for a first date after a drive-in movie. We decided it was really a place we need to visit more often…and we were so enamored that we came back the next weekend (…last night). I can’t believe that we used to live so close to it, we passed by at least twice a week, and we never stopped. Dumb us! But now we know and Bobbie’s Dairy Dip will be serving many more chocolate dipped cones to Los Rodriguez! |

May some things never die. North, South, East, Midwest, or West. This is part of an American summer tradition. Fifties? Thirties? Even the drug store soda fountain? It could even be the basis of a Broadway musical or a TV comedy. Hmm, is the Food Channel ready for a sitcom?
Thanks for the taste of your celebration.
Bobbies furnished us with a happy time, including the challenge of eating my chocolate-dipped ice cream before it melted.
