Mitchell’s Deli!

Returning to the “our neighborhood rules” series, we wanted to dedicate a post to our favorite deli around. Mitchell’s Deli was the first place Javi and I tried out in Riverside Village when we first moved here. We were in the middle of unpacking and we didn’t have a fridge in the house yet so we asked around and a friend of ours told us that Mitchell’s was the best place in East Nashville for a good sandwich. We got our sandwiches to go that first time, but now when we go to Mitchell’s we prefer to walk there with the dogs and eat on their nice shaded back patio. We love having so many local dog-friendly eateries…they even have a water fountain for dogs outside!

Another reason we love Mitchell’s Deli sandwiches (and this is also why their sandwiches are so damn good) is because they use natural ingredients grown locally. They also cure or smoke most of their meat selection in house and they make their own sausages and roast beef. Being the boring creatures of habit that we are, Javi and I get the turkey & avocado sandwich pretty  much every time we go. The turkey avocado has bacon, turkey, sprouts, avocado, tomato, mayo and cheddar cheese on toasted wheat bread. Javi gets his as it is on the menu but I always opt out of the tomato, mayo and cheese…it’s insanely good. Mitchell’s also has a little store inside where they sell fresh produce and other tasty local foods (like Olive and Sinclair chocolate…ooooh) – just another example of how East Nashville businesses support each other and build relationships in the community. We love it.

Hungry yet? If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not…) make sure to grab a sandwich at Mitchell’s sooner than later – you don’t want to miss out on this amazing delicatessen!

  1. The turkey & avocado is my favorite! I don’t think I’ve even tried anything else… it’s too good!
