| My spring cleaning desperation got the best of me this weekend. Every spring my summer clothes start piling up on the floor, on furniture and on pretty much every surface where they don’t belong. The mountains of clothing start to materialize right around the same time that mountains of homework and assignments pile up. Since nobody is grading me on my housekeeping skills, I usually tell myself that I’ll put off organizing my closet until I can get my academic life under control. Of course, what usually happens is that I’m forcefully reminded that if I can’t keep both my home life and academic life at least somewhat under control, they both usually fall apart. It got to the point where our bedroom was such a mess that I couldn’t relax in the one room of the house where I’m supposed to be able to do exactly that. Every morning the first thing that greeted me was my mess, so I finally bit the bullet and decided to put the winter stuff away to make room for summer. | Mi desesperacion por hacer limpieza de primavera nunca me falla. Cada primavera, mi ropa de verano se empieza a amontonar en el suelo, los muebles, y cualquier superficie donde no pertenecen. Las montanas de ropa se empiezan a crear justo al mismo tiempo que las montanas de tareas comienzan a crecer tambien. Ya que nadie me pone nota en la manera que ordeno mi casa, casi siempre me digo a mi misma que arreglare la ropa una vez que mi vida academica este bajo control. Claro que lo que normalmente pasa es que se me recuerda a la fuerza que si no puedo mantener ambas vidas, academica y en casa, bajo control, la dos se desploman. Llego a un punto que nuestra pieza era tal desorden que me era imposible relajarme en el cuarto que se supone deberia poder hacerlo. Casa manana, la primera cosa que me decia Buenos dias era el desorden, asi que porfin me decidi a poner mi ropa de invierno en el atico y hacer espacio en el closet para la ropa de verano. |
| I made piles of all of my clothes on the bed and got the space maker bags down from the attic, then folded everything up and piled everything into the bags. I don’t actually think these things save that much space, but they are cheaper than the big Rubbermaid tubs and no insects can get inside of them up in the attic so we use them. I put all of my scarves, our winter coats, gloves, hats, sweaters and sweatshirts all into these space bags and I’m so glad they are out of the way! Coats and scarves take up so much space in the house and we only have two tiny closets, so it’s nice to have a little extra room for a few months. | Hice montones de ropa en la cama y saque las bolsas espaciales del atico, luego doble todo y lo puse en las bolsas. La verdad es que no creo que estas bolsas salven tanto espacio, pero son mas baratas que comprar baules plasticos y los bichos no pueden meterse en la bolsa cuando esta en el atico asi que preferimos usarlas. Puse todas mis bufandas, abrigos de invierno, guantes, gorros, chalecos y polerones, todo en estas bolsas y ahora estoy tan contenta que no estan en mi camino! Abrigos y bufandas usan tanto espacio en la casa y solo tenemos unos closets chiquito, asi que es comodo poder tener ese espacio extra por algunos meses. |
| So now after a few weeks of total clutter and disaster, I finally organized the house and no longer have any excuses for being unorganized elsewhere. Here’s to a fresh start to the end of the semester – no better day for that than a Monday! | Asi que ahora, despues de varias semanas de desorden y desastre, por fin organize la casa y no tengo mas excusas para er desorganizada. Un comienzo fresco para el final del semestre – no hay mejor dia para eso que el Lunes! |
