It’s finals week…which means I’m digging back into my recent fun adventures file, because I will be enjoying a grand total of zero fun adventures until I turn in my last assignment (which is a take home final, and happens to be due on our 2-year anniversary).

Es semana de examenes finales…lo que significa que estoy buscando en mi archivo de aventuras recientes, porque disfrutare de cero aventuras entretenidas hasta que entregue el ultimo de mis  ensayos (el cual es un examen para la casa, y justo hay que entregarlo el dia de nuestro aniversario).

So one thing we never posted about was a fun advent workshop at my church two weeks ago. Javi and I joined up with my gma and mom for a soup dinner (it was a soup potluck – maybe 50 or 60 crock pots full of every kind of soup imaginable!) and arts and crafts at  Second Presbyterian.

Asi que algo que nunca postee fue el entretenido taller de adviento en mi iglesia, dos semanas atras. Javi y yo nos unimos a mi mama y abuela para una cena de sopas (donde todos trajeron sus recetas preparadas – eran como 50 o 60  sopas de lo que te quieras imaginar) y preparar artesanias en Second Presbiterian. 

I always love going to the advent workshop at Second – it kicks off the Christmas season for me and we get to spend a fun evening with our whole church community. The kids are usually all going nuts running around to the different craft stations while the adults decorate the church, carefully piece together their own advent creations, chat and eat…lots of soup. Doc Allen and the Heartstrings provide the fabulous musical entertainment every year, and there’s a manger scene photo booth set up, which is always a big hit. Javi and I were obviously not about to pass up the opportunity to dress up as holy nativity characters with mom and gma and get a quality, iphone snapshot.

Siempre me gusta ir al taller de adviento en Second – le da el inicio a la temporada de navidad y podemos pasar una tarde entretenida con toda la comunidad de la iglesia. Los ninos usualmente  andan vueltos locos corriendo por todos lados a las diferentes estaciones mientras los adultos decoran la iglesia, ponen las creaciones de adviento con cuidado, conversan y toman un monto de sopa. Doc Allen and the Heartstrings ponen el entretenimiento musical cada ano, y hay un lugar para sacarse fotos con la escena de natividad, lo que es siempre un hit. Javi y yo obviamente no podiamos dejar pasar la oportunidad de disfrazarnos como personajes de la natividad junto con mi mama y abuela y sacarnos una photo de celular …de buena calidad. 

Javi and I left the advent workshop with two new shell angel ornaments, an angel for the top of the tree made out of coffee filters (!) and finger puppets that look like…us. Javi made me, I made him.

Javi y yo nos fuimos del taller con 2 adornos para el arbolito hechos de conchas marinas, un angel hecho de filtros de cafe (!) and titeres de dedos que se parecen a…nosotros. Javi me hizo a mi y yo lo hice a el.

All in all a fabulous night. I can’t believe we’re already two Sundays into Advent – I can’t wait to take Javier’s family to our candlelight Christmas Eve service!

Una noche fantastica. No puedo creer que ya hemos pasado dos Domingos de adviento – no puedo esperar a que la familia de Javier venga con nosotros a la celebracion de Navidad!
