| High quality education brightens the future of any child, but how do we keep kids focused on their education? Is this the responsibility of the kids, parents, teachers, government or everybody? It’s a pretty complex issue – as Leslie reminds me every time she comes home from her class on the sociology of education. Our government is trying to figure out ways to improve the public education system and there is a lot of political debate about how to provide a brighter future for the upcoming generations, but the clock is ticking and for some people the time to act is NOW!
One of these people is our friend Ian Willey, AKA I. C. Will. He is an amazing teacher (former TFA!), truly passionate about education, and also a fantastic musician. He has mixed both of his passions, teaching and hip hop, to create education movement music as a medium to increase awareness of the numerous issues in the education world. His plan is not only to reach as many people as possible, but also motivate children to express themselves and use their creativity in constructive ways. |
Educacion de alta calidad ilumina el futuro de cualquier nino, pero como mantenemos a los ninos enfocados en su educacion? Es esto responsabilidad de los ninos, padres, profesores, gobierno o todo el mundo? Es un asunto complejo – como Leslie siempre me lo recuerda cuando vuelve a casa despues de clases de sociologia de la educacion. Nuestro gobierno esta tratando de encontrar maneras de mejorar el sistema de educacion publica y hay mucho debate politico sobre como ofrecer un futuro mas brillante para las generaciones que vienen, pero el reloj avanza y para algunas personas el momento de actuar es AHORA!

Will is a good friend of the family (he is the same age as Leslie’s brother Ian – they both used to write music and record together in high school) and he visits us in Nashville regularly (he comes down a few times a year to record). Leslie’s dad (John McClure) recorded and mixed his latest CD at Jonny Mac Studio and now he is working on new material. It is amazing to hear all the good work he is doing in schools in the Bronx – seriously, a passionate teacher with a love for hip hop music working in schools in the Bronx? That’s a match made in heaven. It makes you want to go out there and follow in his footsteps. | I.C. Will es un buen amigo de la familia (tiene la misma edad que el hermano de Leslie, Ian – ellos escribian musica juntos y grabaron un par de discos en el liceo) y nos visita en Nashville regularmente (viene a grabar).
