Discovering Red Rocks Park

One of our must-do things in Denver was to go up to the mountains. Due to time constrains and important events already scheduled for our visit, we couldn’t take a long trip, so we had to find a place close to the city where I could see some real Colorado landscapes. We got a recommendation to visit Red Rocks park and since it was only about 35 minutes away we grabbed our hot ride ( Dodge Grand Caravan! ) and headed out to the park. Please don’t you think I am making fun of our minivan, it was awesome! LED lights inside, loud speakers, tons of room, and easy to drive…I loved it!

As we got closer to Red Rocks, we could get an idea about the rocky terrain – duh! – But when we arrived to the park the view was astonishing. Seeing those red rocks coming out of the ground looking like rockets pointing to the sky was something else. The park is famous for its amphitheater built in between the rocks; a truly fabulous venue. Since there was no show going on and the weather was beautiful, tons of people were exercising running up and down, jumping, doing push ups, etc… We even saw some lady doing – in our opinion – one of the most over done “workouts” ever. It is hard to explain it, lets say that she added some special moves to push ups and dips…..but hey if it works for her, good! Better than sitting in a sofa all day, plus it didn’t matter what you were doing as long as you were outside enjoying the day and the gorgeous view.

We were inspired by all these people working out so we decided to take a two-mile hike on one of the park’s trails. We were not prepared for the temperature (we expected to be colder – so we were burning up the whole time with our long sleeves and jeans) but we went for it anyways. We took time to take some pictures, looked for different types of rocks (which reminded us of uncle Warren, he loves geology and rocks AND it was his birthday!) and had a good time talking about the colors and shapes we were seeing. Overall a great way to spend the morning outdoors and get some exercise.

This was a little taste of the many gorgeous places to discover in Colorado. We didn’t have much time to explore so we will have to come back to do some exploring. Our cousin Andrew is determined to convince us to move there (as if that’d be a hard thing to do – we are already in love with CO!) so he’s sending us pictures of the amazing places he frequently visits in Colorado (like Telluride…our next CO destination) ……. we will see if it works……
