Making Dumplings – Nepali style

Last Saturday our friend Bhumika had my Sociology cohort over to her apartment to make dumplings! Bhumika is from Nepal and she told us ” the Nepali idea of getting together and having fun is making and having mo:mo: or dumplings.” Last year our cohort got together all the time because we always studied statistics together or planned little events like game nights etc., but this year it seems like academia and life have gotten the better of our schedules and since we are all split into different classes we don’t see each other as often. This was a really fun night of relaxing and learning how to make dumplings (one of my favorite foods! but these dumplings were MUCH tastier than the frozen Trader Joe’s dumplings I get!).

Apparently there are several ways to wrap the innards of the dumpling up, and some of the methods were pretty artsy (and difficult)! Bhumika showed us how to make the most basic version and then showed us the more complicated, pretty ways to fold them, which I was never able to master. We had some pretty creative looking dumplings in the end. The final products were absolutely delicious (despite their strange shapes) and I’m so glad to know how to make them now. It was great to spend some time with the cohort too – I’m so lucky to have such an awesome group throughout this crazy grad school adventure. Below are some photos of our evening!

Oh yeah! And we got a cake to celebrate Lauren and Matt's engagement. Congrats again, guys!
