The weather is nice outside and it feels good to work outdoors. Since I didn’t have a building project, I decided to start working on our home’s “curb appeal”. I trimmed some bushes, and actually took out a couple as well. We know we need to work on our landscaping but the most annoying thing about our house was our walkway and front entrance. (I will talk about how I fixed the walkway…the front entrance will come in a future post)

El tiempo esta bueno y se siente bien trabajando afuera. Ya que no tengo en mente construir nada en este momento, decidi en trabajar en la fachada de la casa. Corte matorrales y saque algunos de raiz tambien. Sabemos que tenemos que trabajar en las platas al rededor de la casa pero eso sera mas adelante, por ahora lo mas inmediato era arreglar la entrada y sendero del estacionamiento a la puerta principal. (Voy a hablar sobre como arregle la entrada mas adelante, por ahora me concentrare solo en el sendero…)

Our original walkway consisted of cement blocks laying on top of the grass.  The grass pretty much ate those blocks and grew over them with the years, so in order to keep the walkway, more blocks were set on top of those. That’s what I discovered after spending an afternoon digging cement blocks out of our front yard……which was really hard work. But the positive thing was: I had plenty of blocks to rebuild the walkway!!!!!! It was dangerous to have blocks just sitting on top of the grass…we were afraid that people would trip and fall. Uneven, broken stones and a narrow walkway were a recipe for danger – our walkay needed a makeover!!!

Nuestro sendero original consistia de bloques de cemento que fueron puestos encima del pasto. Con el tiempo, el pasto practicamente se comio los bloques asi que para mantener el sendero pusieron mas bloques encima. Eso fue lo que encontre luego de pasar toda la tarde desenterrando bloques de cemento en nuestro jardin…..lo que fue bien dificil. Pero lo positivo fue que: ahora tengo bloques suficientes para reconstruir el sendero!!!! Era peligroso tener los bloques puestos encima del pasto…teniamos miedo que alguien se tropezara y se cayera. Desnivelado, con bloques rotos y muy pequeno es una receta perfecta para un sendero peligroso – necesitaba un recambio!

The fix was not complicated – just hard work and slow going. So I dug out all the blocks I could from our old walkway first.

El arreglo no fue complicado – solo duro y de avance lento. Asi que desenterre todos los bloques que pude del sendero antiguo.

Then took all the blocks and layed them on the grass to form the pattern I wanted and get a good idea of how it would look.

Luego tome los bloques y losp use encima del pasto para tener una buena idea de como se verian.

Finally I dug all the blocks and used sand to keep them from moving and to fil the gaps.

Finalmente los enterre y use arena para mantenerlos en su lugar sin que se movieran y llenar los espacios.

The last step will be trhowing some grass seed around the blocks and let nature do its job!

El ultimo paso sera tirar semillas de pasto alrededor de los bloques y dejar que la naturaleza haga su trabajo!

Now we have a nice walkway that welcomes you to Los Rodriguez mansion…
