Pooch Porches Lousiana swamp style!

DOG HOUSE CRASHERS! Los Rodriguez Life style!

You probably read about our dog houses (If you missed them check them out here ) and how much fun we had building them and decorating them. But believe or not the dogs still haven’t used them very much. Even when it rains Chupete won’t use his – Choripan gets inside his house to avoid getting wet, but Chupete is a lost case and prefers to get soaked instead of getting in the dog house. Actually, Chupete spends most of his time on our back stoop, just under a tiny spot of roof that peeks out over the edge of the house that offers a little bit of shelter. It could be that the nice weather is still around and they prefer the fresh air and the sun to the insides of their houses. We agree with them, we love to use our front porch and enjoy nature…. so we figured that it would only be fair for Chupete and Choripan to have a front porch too. I mean, who doesn’t like to sit out on the porch on a sunny day?? Especially now that the temperature is going down and the fresh breeze of fall finally showed up!!

So I came up with a plan to build front porches for their houses. I wanted it to be something easy to make, inexpensive, and good looking of course! I had some material laying around for the floor and part of the legs and I needed to get a roof and posts. I went to Home Depot this time and found a sheet of plastic roofing; water proof of course, light, and transparent so it would let light go through..PERFECT! For the posts I used 2 x 4s (treated lumber). I had a good piece of subfloor material that I used for the floor.

The porches look kinda like something you would see in a house in the middle of a swamp…and we love the look. And luckily so do the dogs!!! Put a pillow on top and they are ready to kick back and enjoy the sunshine or stay away from the rain! Here are a bunch of pictures of the progress and final product. We still need to paint them so they can match the houses, but that will happen in a few weeks after the treated lumber has dried up. Check it out!
