‘Merica party

On April 19 I became an American citizen and for quite a while we planned on having a big America party to celebrate. We wanted to have as many family and friends at the party as possible, but due to vacation schedules, shows, gigs, work, etc…we couldn’t find a good time to have this party until the weekend after the 4^th of July…which actually turned out to be perfect timing. Nothing like the 4th to celebrate citizenship!

El 19 de Abril me converti en un ciudadano Norteamericano y hace bastante tiempo habiamos planeado una fiesta de America para celebrar. Queriamos que viniera la mayor cantidad de amigos y familiares posible, pero debido a vacaciones, shows, trabajo, presentaciones, etc…no pudimos encontrar una buena fecha hasta el fin de semana del 4 de Julio…lo cual termino siendo el momento perfecto. Nada como el 4 de Julio para celebrar la ciudadania!

We had friends coming from out of town (which was amazing, we always have such a blast when we all get together), family coming from Louisville and Soddy Daisy, and Nashville friends from work, school, church, etc… It was a crazy amalgam of people. The weather that weekend was horrible to say the least – it rained every day from Thursday through Saturday. We had planned on using the pool, setting up some lawn games and playing music outside but we had to adjust a little in case of another storm. Luckily, the rain stopped on Saturday from 12 pm to around 12 am so we were able to grill out and just spend time outdoors, but it was a pretty cloudy day. John set up music inside just in case, so the weather didn’t stop the party. The house was decorated all in red, white, and blue (good job ladies!), there were cupcakes, we had several flags, and many people brought some epic America outfits. I also have to add that our friend Paula made two delicious cheesecakes that were a huge hit!! Delicious stuff!

Vinieron amigos de otras ciudades (lo cual fue genial, siempre lo pasamos tan bien cuando nos juntamos), familiares que vinieron desde Louisville y Soddy Daisy, y amigos de Nashville del trabajo, universidad, iglesia, etc…Fue una gran mezcle de gente. El tiempo ese fin de semana estuvo horrible para decir poco – llovio todos los dias desde el Jueves al Sabado. Habiamos planeado en usar la piscina, instalar juegos en el jardin, y tocar musica afuera pero tuvimos que ajustar algunas cosas. Por suerte, la lluvia paro el Sabado desde el medio dia hasta la media noche asi que pudimos hacer un asado y pasar tiempo afuera, pero estuvo nublado. John instalo todo para la musica dentro de la casa por si acaso, asi que el tiempo no detuvo la fiesta. La casa estaba decorada completa en azul, blanco y rojo (buen trabajo senoritas!), habian quequitos, banderas, y mucha gente trajo sus ropa y atuendos perfectos para la ocasion. Tambien debo agregar que nuestra amiga Paula hizo dos cheesecakes deliciosos que fueron un exito!! Muy ricos!!

During the day we grilled out, ate good food and had plenty of beer. The music kicked up a little later with Leslie, John and friends playing some music while drinking even more beer…and by the end of the day we played circle of death – which happened to be the FUNNIEST circle of death game I have ever played. We had so much fun!! I was so glad to see everyone and share a good time together. The best part of this country can be summarized in the first 3 words of the constitution…We the people…!! I am happy and proud to be a naturalized citizen, but more than anything I am thankful to have amazing people around me who make this place so special.

Durante el dia preparamos el asado, cmimos rico y tomamos harta cerveza. La musica comenzo en la tarde con Leslie y John y algunos amigos tocando, cantando y bebiendo mas cerveza…y ya al final del dia jugamos circulo de la muerte – el cual termino siendo el juego de circulo de la muerte mas divertido que hemos jugado (no se preocupen por el nombre, es un juego de cartas!) Lo pasamos espectacular!!! Estaba agradecido de poder verlos a todos y pasar un buen rato juntos. La mejor parte de este pais puede ser resumida en las 3 primeras palabras de su constitucion…Nosotros la gente…!! Estoy feliz y orgullozo de haber sido naturalizado, pero mas que nada estoy agradecido de tener tanta gente maravilloza a mi alrededor que hacen este lugar algo muy especial.
