| Last Sunday night I had the privilege and pleasure to get up on stage with some of the most jaw-dropping musicians in Nashville to sing some backup on a song called Redeemed. The song is on the soundtrack for the new movie Deadline that just premiered in Nashville on Wednesday and is in theaters now in our wonderful city (…go see it!!). My friend Dave Perkins, a legendary blues-rock guitarist, composed and performed the score for Deadline and produced and recorded the soundtrack. Some of the songs on the soundtrack come from his album Pistol City Holiness and then he wrote a few of the songs specifically for the movie. I sang on two songs on the soundtrack – tracks 4 and 6 (Bad News and Redeemed). It was so much fun to record with Dave on these two songs and hear them come together on the soundtrack. If you do go see the movie, one of the songs I sing on (Bad News) actually plays in the movie during a sequence that juxtaposes the two main characters – I’m singing the chorus. Pretty sweet!! | El Domingo pasado tuve el privilegio y el placer de subirme al escenario junto con los musicos mas fantasticos de Nashville para cantar segunda voz en una cancion llamada Redeemed. La cancion es parte de la banda sonora de la nueva pelicula “Deadline” que se estreno en Nashville el miercoles y esta en muchos teatros ahora en esta hermosa ciudad (…vayan a verla!!). Mi amigo Dave Perkins, un guitarrista de blues legendario, compuso y grabo la musica para “Deadline” y produjo la banda sonora. Algunas de las canciones en la banda sonora vienen de su album “Pistol City Holiness” y tambien escribio algunas cancionas especificamente para la pelicula. Yo cante en 2 canciones de la banda sonora – cancion 4 y 6 (Bad news y Redeemed). Fue muy entretenido grabar con Dave esta dos canciones y escuchar como todo se escucha en conjunto. Si van a ver la pelicula, una de las canciones donde yo canto (Bad News) se toca durante una secuencia donde los dos personajes principales son puestos uno al lado del otro en diferentes imagenes – yo canto en el coro. | So anyway, back to last Sunday night. There was a big show at 3rd & Lindsley for the soundtrack premier and my dad played keys the whole show! It was so much fun to watch him up there with Dave and some other incredible musicians including Phil Madeira, Rick Cua, Fran Breen and Amudhan Venkateswaran, an incredible tablas player. Ashley Cleveland also got up and sang a few – she’s just amazing. She sang with Dave on Redeemed too, so I got to sing backup with Ashley Cleveland! Haha – Javi got a few pics of me up there with everyone to prove it. | Pero bueno, de vuelta al Domingo pasado. Hubo un gran show en 3rd & Lindsley para el lanzamiento de la banda sonora y mi papa toco el organo durante todo el show! Fue muy entretenido verlo alla arriba con Dave y otros musico increibles que incluyeron a Phil Madeira, Rick Cua, Fran Breen y Amudhan Venkateswaran, quien toca tablas como nadie mas puede. Ashley Cleveland tambien subio al escenario a cantar un par de canciones – ella es simplemente increible. Ella tambien canto Redeemed, asi que pude cantar segunda voz con Ashley Cleveland! haha – Javi saco un par de fotos para probarlo. |
| For the rest of the night when we weren’t cheering for some crazy lead from one of musicians I was running around with my camera taking pics of everyone on stage (of course). If you live in Nashville, right now is your chance to go see Deadline before anyone else in the country does!! From what I understand, it’ll be released in more theaters around the country in April. Check out the website to get the story behind it – it looks like a fantastic movie. The premiere went really well on Wednesday- the 450-seat theater was totally full and the reviews so far have been out the top. If you do see it let us know what you thought! | El resto de la noche, cuando no estabamos aplaudiendo a los musicos en sus solos, estuve dandome vueltas con la camara sacando fotos de todos en el escenario (ovbio!). Si vives en Nashville, ahora es tu oportunidad de ir a ver Deadline antes que todo el mundo!! Por lo que entiendo, sera lanzada en mas teatros al rededor del pais en Abril. Visiten el sitio web para ver la historia detras de la pelicula – es una pelicula fantastica. La premiere salio muy bien el miercoles – las salas estaban llenas y las criticas han sido buenisimas.
