Every time we go to a restaurant in East Nashville we come out and think: “I love to live on this side of town. It’s so crazy that we never came here before moving”. One of our first restaurant adventures on this side of town, before we moved here, was thanks to our friend Michael who wanted to show us this new place The Silly Goose. At the time the restaurant was new (this was a couple of years ago) and Leslie had just started the “eating local” kick and The Silly Goose tries to use local ingredients for as many dishes as possible. The owner was trying out new recipes at the time, one of which was a homemade nutella ice cream. He wanted us to try it – for free – so we could give him feedback…which of course we were only too happy to give. I’d say it was a pretty excellent first-time experience.

Casa vez que vamos a un restaurante en el Este de Nashville salimos diciendo: “Me vivir en este lado de la ciudad. Que loco que nunca veniamos para aca antes de mudarnos”. Una de nuestras primeras aventuras por estos lados, antes de mudarnos, fue gracias a nuestro amigo Michael quien queria mostrarnos este nuevo lugar llamado The Silly Goose (el Ganso Tonto). En ese tiempo, el restaurant era nuevo (esto fue un par de anos atras) y Leslie recien comenzaba a comer solo porductos organicos y locales, y el Silly Goose intenta usar ingredientes locales pera la mayor cantidad de platos posible. El dueno estaba probando nuevas recetas en ese tiempo, una de las cuales era su helado casero de Nutella. El quizo que lo probaramos – gratis – para poder darle nuestra opinion …. la cual, claro, estabamos felices de ofrecer. Puedo decir que la primera experiencia fue excelente.

In the couple of years since we made that first trip, The Silly Goose expanded. They used to be able to seat about 10 people so they desperately needed a bigger place. When we still lived on the other side of town we would always talk about going back but between the restaurant closing for a while for remodeling and us living 25 minutes away, we never made it back. Now the Silly Goose is only about 5 minutes from our house and it’s reopened with a fresh new look inside, so we couldn’t wait to get back there to see if the menu had expanded too.

En los proximos anos despues de esa experiencia, el Silly Goose crecio. Antes podian sentar al rededor de 10 personas y necesitaban mas espacio desesperadamente. Cuando viviamos en el otro lado de la ciudad, siempre hablabamos sobre volver pero entre los 25 minutos de viaje y el lugar cerrado por remodelacion, nunca lo hicimos. Ahora el Silly Goose esta a solo 5 minutos de casa, abrio de nuevo con un nuevo look, asi que no podiamos esperar mas para ir. Mas encima el menu tambien se expandio!

Last Friday we went there for dinner and, once again, they delivered an amazing meal. We forgot to bring our own beer or wine (yes, BYOA! as in bring your own alcohol – we think there’s a bottle opening fee but we forgot to ask so don’t hold us to it) but it didn’t matter, we were there for the food. Leslie ordered a Jo C.D. – a vegetarian sandwich with artichokes, grilled zucchini, feta cheese, oregano and sun-dried tomato tapenade on toasted ciabatta. She was super excited with her sandwich – she was planning to save half and eat it the next day for lunch but she couldn’t stop herself from finishing it! I ordered the Bird – a sandwich on wholegrain bread with a grilled chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, avocados, bacon and peppered goat cheese. It was  delicious (I ordered the same thing the first time we went and I kinda want to eat one right now…) Both of our entrees came with their house cous-cous, which is to die for! Seriously…it’s really not fair to write about all this because I’m really wishing I could go eat there right now. At the end of our meal the waiter came and offered us dessert and after uttering 4 words explaining their cheesecake, Leslie started shaking her head and congratulating the waiter on bringing up my favorite dessert…she knew I had to have it! You could tell the cheesecake was made from scratch…AAAAHHH so good! All I can say (after saying all of the above) is that I’m SO glad we live so close to this haven of healthy and tasty food.

El viernes pasado fuimos a cenar alli, y nuevamente, fue una cena espectacular. Nos olvidamos de traer nuestra propia cerveza o vino (si, puedes traer tu propia bebida alcoholica – pensamos que tienen un cobro por abrir botellas pero nos olvidamos de preguntar asi que no tomen nuestra palabra por hecho) pero no importo, fuimos por la comida. Leslie pidio un Jo C. D. – un sandwich vegetariano con alcachofa, zuchinni a la brasa, queso feta, oregano y tomates secos en un pan ciabatta. Estaba super contenta con su sandwich – ella planeaba comer la mitad y guardar la otra mitad para el almuerzo al otro dia pero no pudo parar. Yo pedi el Bird (el Pajaro) – un sandwich en pan integral con pechuga de pollo a las brasas, tomates secos, palta, tocino, y queso de cabra. Estaba delicioso (pedi lo mismo que la primra vez que fuimos y ahora quiero otro en este momento…) Ambos sandwichs vienieron con su cous-cous hecho en casa, que es para morirse! En serio…no es justo tener que escribir sobre esto porque en verdad quiero poder comer alli ahora mismo. Al final de nuestra comida el mesero vino a ofrecernos postre y despues de cuatro palabrs explicando el cheesecake, Leslie empezo a mover su cabeza de lado a lado y a felicitarlo por ofrecer mi postre favorito….ella sabia que tenia que comerlo! Se notaba que el cheesecake fue hecho ahi….bueniiiiiiisimo! Solo puedo decir (despues de decir todo lo que dije antes) que estoy TAN feliz de vivir tan cerca de este paraiso de comida saludable y exquisita.

This whole post is obviously one big fat recommendation for one of our favorite restaurants – if you want to try out a new place that has a menu with some new and different options that you won’t see on any other menu in town, we suggest you head to the Silly Goose.
